After a bunch of hoohaa.................the answer is yes!

I found a cool product by Gefen

[Link: gefen.com]

It will allow me to take the HDMI out of the apple tv, convert to DVI, plug in video thru DVI and has a digital audio input to get the Sonos sound.

Then it converts it back to HDMI with my sonos audio.

I am using two apple tvs in the system now, one for apple tv and one for Sonos with pics

That is an interesting piece and possible problem solver for some applications, but if you have an A/V receiver in the system, there are even more flexible ways to do this. On most, you can go back and forth between different audio inputs on one video input if you have the right codes.

For instance, I have set up macros before where one is something like "Watch AppleTV" which does the obvious, but then there is another button that says "Watch AppleTV with Sonos" which just changes the sound over.

I have done it on 5008, 5007, 6007, and 1603s so far. It seems like the lower end models don't have the correct discretes for IR but they do for serial. However, even with IR, you can do it by selecting the multi-channel input (called "7.1ch" in URC codes) then once it is in that mode, toggle back to the one you want with the "input mode" code. This should work for Denon too.

Onkyo is even easier, you just select the video input, wait 8 seconds or so, then select an audio-only input such as CD. It will automatically matrix the separate audio on top of the video.

Assuming you are using analog for Sonos and HDMI for ATV, I used the serial codeset 699, codes are "analog" and "hdmi".

I am just referencing the codes as they are indexed and named in the URC world. ASCII is "SDHDMI" for HDMI and "SDANALOG" for analog.

Turn CEC off if you have a TV with that setting in HDMI Control (assuming you're using ARC) and you can watch whatever you want while you listen to whatever you want with a receiver that has the ability to set the video source for each audio input.

RTI driver definitely allows you to do this with built in commands. No need for Gefen? For your macro send the input of AVR to the Sonos input, then send a second command "video select" in the RTI driver to input of AppleTV.

Does Video select work with HDMI on a Marantz receiver? I know on Denon receivers it only works with component sources. Unless this is something they have changed on the newest models.
