Hello,

I'm considering getting into SONOS for some upcoming projects. In one specific instance, it'd make sense to use a SONOS Connect:Amp to feed both music [streamed] and a local DirecTV source to stereo bookshelf speakers.

Assuming that the DirecTV receiver is also connected via HDMI to the display, what kind of lip sync delay/offset can one expect between the A/D input of the Connect:AMP and the onscreen image?

I understand that the image delay may vary with different displays and that there is likely no definitive answer in milliseconds or frames...I'm more interested in:

1) Whether this is commonly done with negligible lip sync delay
2) Whether the offset is fixed or variable [i.e. does SONOS always take the same amount of time to encode incoming audio and spit it out?]

TIA

This past December we did this with Uverse..... Going by memory, there was a slight delay. I don't think (remember) it was horrible but then again as long as you're not watching what I call "talking heads" where you are staring at someone's head while they talk to you, you may not even notice.
All high's, all low's, it must be.......

If you go into the advanced settings on the Sonos, you'll see a button for Compression. Inside of this, you'll see settings that show .75 sec delay and 2 second delay. You can't get away from the delay if you use a separate source going to the Aux Input.

Yikes...That's roughly 22 frames of delay...Any more than 2 frames is easily detectable. Assuming no likewise offset on the video side, that's unacceptable.

This isn't sounding like a viable scenario...Bummer.

We've used Sonos as an endpoint solution in video systems with C4 and not had any discernable issues with lip sync. Turn off compression, and the wireless on the units, put them on a good network, and all is good.
