Anyone have experience with installing 2 DTV genies in the same system using a SWM 16? Don't theorize, experience only please. I know that you can do a genie and 7 clients ( yes 7) but I want to double that on the same dish using a SWM 16. I know that only 3 clients can be viewed from each genie at a time. I'm sure that each can be set up to communicate via home sharing per each Genie, I also know the the 2 genies would not communicate with each other which is not a problem. I'm setting them up, 1 set for the adults and one for the kids. Large home with 15 TVs.

I thought DTV would only allow one genie per account at this time?

Yes , however I'm a Directv retailer and if the client wants to pay for the equipment then that's up to them. I spoke to my sales rep and technical department at perfect 10 and that reason was due to the shortage of genies and the lack of support directv would offer with 2 genies. Neither of these reasons affect me.

Do you think that's the best approach given the clients needs?
You would know more about that than me.
I just finished a job with 21 TV's,8 DVR's and 13 H 25's using two swm16's combined together.
The whole house worked perfectly and could draw from any DVR.
I'm no longer associated with DTV at this point however we were a retailer at my former employer.
The only reason that I got involved was due to the local DTV guys saying it couldn't be done and i felt that it could.
Sorry for burning your time as I have no real answer, just putting up some ideas.

It doesn't matter what you sell the client, when you call dtv to activate they won't do it. Not to mention this as a kludge.

Just an update here, it does work and they did activate... ( Directv does not support this - but if your calling directv for support you shouldnt be installing them in the 1st place)
The reason to do this was because of the size of the client being mounted to the back of TVs. Most we're in locations that required the box to be very small and hidden. Other reasons were the features of the genie and to not cross the recorded shows between the adults and children of the home. As far as the " kludge" goes. The equipment is actully less cumbersome this way then it would of been tring to place as many non genie boxes on the whole home share and to connect to the network. The equipment was simple. Genies, clients and a SWM 16. Done.
I also learned that others have done this for other reasons. My main purpose of the question was to actually reach out to anyone that has done this to see if there were any drawbacks.

Don't read my answer. Someone else will go into great detail as to why I am wrong rather than answer the original question... |

Do not ever use a SWM 32. They have a 75% failure rate. Plus if you use two SWM 16's, If one goes out, you don't loose the whole system.
