Actually many people will be or have been set free. Pretty amazing. A lot of peoples lives have been ruined for smoking a little of the green and getting caught.
Think of the thousands and thousands of people sitting in jails or prisons for possession of this herb.
Not sure if it was Nixon or Reagan that categorized pot with cocaine and heroin.
Change has come (to Washington). I never thought I'd see the day, myself.
I hate the stuff, but am happy that the laws have changed. I smoked for about 8 years back in the day (among many, many, many other things, hence the name!). I can say that I believe alcohol is far more damaging than pot. Potheads sit around, talk, watch TV, sleep, eat and stay relatively mellow. Driving high is much safer than when drunk. (yes, both should be illegal, calm down!) Pot helps people be creative which is great for for things like music and art (maybe even automation;). Potheads can get up in the morning after a night of heavy smoking and still make it to work and be functional. It should be legal everywhere and the country should start making money on it instead of wasting billions fighting it. My one problem with legalizing it is I fear it will put our already lazy country into an even lazier state. There's no doubt that for most people, ambition suffers when high.

Over the years several of my clients have confessed to having enjoyed the herb... best I could tell none of those folks ever suffered from a lack of ambition.

And people don't hijack trucks and sell cigarettes illegally? They don't make their own booze? Anything that's regulated and taxed by a government will have people making/buying/selling it outside of the laws. What will government do with the taxes? They only know one thing- "If we get more tax revenue, we'll need to find something to spend it on".

So, school districts should be allowed to keep wasting tens of millions of dollars by not watching their budget, keeping piss-poor teachers on the payroll only because they have tenure and by coming up with teaching methods that don't work? If they can't get the kids interested in school, the kids won't learn. Conversely, if parents don't teach their kids what's important, the kids won't care. When parents are too high to care for their kids, what would YOU suggest? Do you think people's drug habits will magically become less severe once pot is legalized? This country is broken and legalizing pot won't fix our problems. Pick the battles that matter.

On a plus side, no one might suffer from Glaucoma, those with Arthritis would get a bit of relief, and those with some forms of Cancer would have the ill effects of treatment eased....
All in all, I think having some lazy pot heads sitting around, keeping the pizza places in business, would be worth the good that legal weed could/can do.

Pot has aided in my brothers disability to leave my parents house at the young age of 36. Now, my parents hold an equal amount of blame in allowing this, and so does my brother's already self conscience state of mind. The weed smoking has really held him back though and its unfortunate. Do I think it is the worst thing in the world? No, it can do some good in the right circumstance. I am however someone that has never had a drink, never did a drug, and never felt the need to try any of it, so I'm not the right person to ask on whether a mind altering substance should be legal.

I have heard a few people say that if you go over the Amsterdam, you can kind of see what 'issues' legalization might cause. It's just like anything else, some people can handle it responsibly and some can't. I think most people that want to use it are already so I'm for legalizing it. I'm not sure it makes you more artistic but I do know it makes you 'feel' like you are more artistic!

I don't know man, can you imagine what some of the best songs ever written would sound like if they hadn't been "experimenting"

I'm all for using it for medicinal purposes but for recreation, I still think people shouldn't drive or work when stoned. However, I think it should be mandatory for criminals to smoke it- they'll make their getaway at a blistering 15 MPH which, to them, is quite fast enough.

LMAO The thought this brings to mind: Cop - I clocked you at 12.5 miles per hour in a 65 zone, so what's going on? Stoner - DUDE! Wassup? You got some Doritos?

Do you feel the same way about wine tasting events? No, but if you saw the parade of losers going to this event, you'd understand my comment. Looked like they let out all; of the Juvenile Delinquent Halls and Jails... The police were handing out bags of Doritos, and on the bags they had a few general pot usage do's and don'ts. One of the Do's was, "Listen to Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon"! Not Kidding!
