Customer ordered DirecTV Genie upgrade for existing system. DirecTV installer arrives at the job site and says no can do. Existing cables are in  1 inch conduit and need to be removed and replaced with current cables from DirecTV. Installer does not do conduit. Here is where I come in. DirecTV installer has dropped off correct cable to be pulled by someone other than he. Cable is one length of RG6 with ground and one length of RG6 Dual (Siamese) with ground. Both cables appear to be too short for the runs, so I shall replace with my own RG6.

I have not pre wired for DirecTV for quite sometime, therefore I need some assistance.

1. Distance from antenna, which will be mounted on a tower, to outbuilding is 50 feet. Here would be a run of  RG6 single with ground to the SWM. One DirecTV box here.

2. From SWM to house, 80 feet using the Siamese RG6. Two maybe three DirecTV boxes here.

3. Ground block used in between antenna and SWM. Is this correct?

4. Is ground necessary from SWM to house?

5. I am just assuming this is what the DirecTV installer had in mind.

Thanks for your help

Your distances are no problem.
To facilitate future receivers/tuners I would:
1. Home Run (4) Satellite Rated, Solid Copper Center Conductor RG6 Coaxial Cables to Head End/SWM Location.
2. Place Ground Block Between ODU and Head End/SWM Location.
3. Home Run All Receiver Drops to Head End/SWM Location.

Do you have an answer for question #4?

In a residential application that is rarely done, here in Cali by subcontractors or DirecTV house men anyway. Definitely place a "grounded" ground block between dish and headend. I prefer to ground all applicable devices when working in lightning country. In a commercial application, definitely ground head end/rack/swm as well.
