So the FCC says that cell signal boosters must be turned off until consent is given by your carrier. And then even after consent is given, the FCC can still tell you to power down your equipment.

So you have an acct. with Verizon, and the FCC is satisfied if Verizon gives you the "go", suppose an AT&T tower is "affected"?

Seems like a load of BS and Big Brother once again is flexing his muscles. I cant imagine boosting signal in your customers home that has weak signal could possibly have any real affect on the cell tower that is too far away to provide proper coverage in the first place.

The regulation was passed in February 2013, so its fairly new.

Knowing that a lot of us install equipment to boost our customers cell performance in their homes, has any one experienced any issues?

We sometimes install them on boats.  We had one malfunction down in Florida and AT&T showed up at the dock and sniffed out the offending boat. It was messing up a nearby tower. The boat owner faced a stiff fine if he (we) failed to fix the problem.

I am guessing that Sorenson Capital sure is happy that they invested in the acquisition of Wilson Electronics.

Oh well, maybe the market for their CB antennas will make up for it.

(EDIT) the CB antenna company is a totally different company!

This has always been true. The FCC has control of bandwidth allocation. If you have spurs being generated outside of band, and they are unable to contact you, they will go as far as to turn off power to the property with the transmitter.

I was part of a Ham Radio club, where the FCC showed up and turned off our 2 meter repeater as they were saying we had out of band transmissions. They basically threatened the farmer whom our tower was on, so he shut it down. They gave us zero notice. They were there in their van, and wanted it shut down right then, or they were threatening to turn off the farmers power input to the barn we had our transmitter in. Turns out it wasn't our transmitter at all, as after they shut it down, the transmission spurs were still present! LOL

I ran into a Wilson Electronics rep today at Vendopalooza in Elk Grove Village. It sounds like the best units out there (like Wilson) will be allowed.

It's the 'me too' vendors with products of dubious quality who are being kicked out of the re-transmitting arena with this ruling. The Wilson rep said that they worked hand in hand with the FCC as this was being determined.

For all of you IPers who might see this, stay tuned....
Wilson has agreed to participate in our Manufacturer Zone.

Will it change anything? No.
People will still install the shit product on their own without knowledge. Most likely putting the units into feedback mode and causing issues.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Does anyone mind admitting who is out of compliance? I would like to know from a non-Wilson dealer please.

Good news!

I've installed their product for years with excellent results.

Never had a "mandatory shutdown" from the cell providers!
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Proud to say that my property is protected by a high speed wireless device!
