I just completed a boat with two marantz receivers. (SR6007 and NR1503)
I was trying to send discrete sound mode commands for Dolby PLII Movies and Dolby PLII Music. I confirmed that the hex codes I was using matched the command info on the Marantz excel document, but when sending the commands, the on screen display would only flash "Multi Channel Input" for the name of the sound mode.
If i switched to Auto or Stereo or Multi Stereo sound modes using discrete codes, it would say the name of the sound mode on the screen. But when trying discrete codes for Dolby formats, it would only say Multi Channel Input when the code was received.
Has anyone seen this? Is this something new that marantz is doing? I didn't have this problem on my last marantz install (SR6006)

Doesn't Marantz (and Denon for that matter) only let you select PLII when you have a stereo/DPL input? I think the AVR is telling you it already is receiving AC3 or DTS signal and won't let you reprocess it.

On my Marantz SR7007 if I just push the button once it just flashes the current "auto-detected" mode, but if I hold down the button for a few seconds it brings up a menu which lets me choose which one I want.

I could be way off here because I do not know what source devices are giving you this "problem". If you are using a bluray player and have it set to output LPCM signals (the bluray player is doing the decoding), rather than bitstream (AVR does the decoding), that could be the reason you are not able to add DPLII processing to it. Most AVRs will pass through LPCM signals but will not let you utilize any of the additional DSP modes with them.

Looks like the SR6007 will process LPCM, however the manual says in order to apply any Dolby processing to >2.0, your speakers have to be configured a certain way. For example, PLIIx Movie mode requires Assign set to "Surround Back" (not Zone 2 or bi-amp) and it must have 2 speakers, not 1 or none.
Also, "MULTI CH IN" is the default sound mode for LPCM... you'd be looking for the screen to say "MULTI CH IN + PLIIx MOVIE".
