We carry 4 of the major brands of Automation Systems. With three of these companies we don't run into too much of a problem on getting low-balled. One of these systems (and I won't say publicly who they are) we are getting seriously under - bid on all of the time. Are any of you guys in other parts of the country having similar issues?
PM me if you can. If that is the case, I think we should contact this supplier.
thanks

Why don't you join IP so you don't have to have these awkward conversations over a public form?

Dude, I get under bid on URC and RTI all the time. I explain to the client that I am not more expensive, I am the best. I do the job right, and follow through all the way to the end. I think because URC and RTI are available through distribution, there is no proper training, and leash on these idiots.

But one company we go against on these systems bills out their labor @35$ an hour, and drop price on the equipment. That's what I was charging 20 years ago when I was on my own!

Wow, I have no idea how anyone could still be in business doing as you stated. Because they are not in business. No way. No licensing, no insurance, no registered business, therefore not paying taxes.

Tell the customer to please use this person, but keep your card handy to call and fix in the very near future. No one can stay in business at that price with no profit on equipment.

He can afford to stay in "business" because its not his full time gig. He is doing it on the side. Pretty much every "company" you come across charging that rate is just doing it on the side. Either an installer for a company doing installs occasionally at night or on the weekends, or an IT guy doing it on the side. I've seen a few IT guys claiming to "do what I do". They show up in a Yaris with a briefcase with a screw driver and a RJ45 crimper.
