I have always been a cable guy for only two reasons and two reasons only, 1: I can't stand the sight of the dish on the house (OCD) and 2: internet speeds.

Fios is making some pretty bold speed claims on their internet service. Their website says I can go up to 150Mbps at my address. I am only considering the 75Mbps service. I am a solid 20Mbps now and to go up to 30Mbps-50Mbps with cable will cost more than 75Mbps with Fios.

What is your experience with the actual service TV/internet/phone and their whole house DVR set up?

How is their PQ and formatting?

And also the customer service end of things, I realize they don't care like everybody else, but maybe just a little more.

Thanks
Mike

FIOS is my favorite provider. Their customer service sucks so they are on par with the industry there.

FIOS Rules!

Internet is amazing. we pay for 15/5 but we regularly are are around 22/6 but right now they are giving us a free "quantum" preview so our speeds are 50/50

Honestly, i haven't noticed any difference at all with quantum. Infact my ping went up slightly playing battlefield.

TV service is OK, i hate how the channel numbers are layed out it is better then crapcast though and picture quality is on par with direcTV, however DTV still has the edge in that aspect

Most hi def channels including hbo and show time. The screensaver also makes for a reliable macro. Basically makes it a discrete on command. It pretty awesome in my opinion.

Ive had Fios for about 5 years. People that know me think I'm a Fios salesman lol. Picture quality blows away Cablevision, Time Warner. Internet speeds are great. At my house I have the 150/75 Quantum and I can download "things" that are 8-10 GB in less than 45 minutes, sometimes 20-30 minutes. Multi room dvr blows away any local competitors offering. Service is solid. The billing dept can cause some headaches and confusion (though its much better lately) when you make a change as their billing cycles are wacky. But If you have an issue and call and complain they'll give you some kinda freebie to compensate.

Boxes are nice in racks since they have a rear ir port and if you get one of the compatible ir receivers you can put an emitter on it to avoid ugly bugs on the front. HDMI and component work simultaneously, and they have optical and coax digital outputs.

The picture quality is even across the board for the most part, for at least the channels I watch they are all in 5.1.

Their on demand, at least here is annoying. Mainly the response time of the menus, a lot of delayed responses to control. This hits me every night when my daughter asks for a certain cartoon that's on Disney jr.

The ONLY bad thing about FiOS is it takes 1(one) FULL Day to do an install.

After that unless a pole goes down, an animal eats a wire or a black hole passes by there are no problems.

The Menus seem to have slowed down on the old moto silver boxes, the newer ones seem to be faster

I love Fios, have lived with it for 5 years now.. No issues at all with internet, very fast! Boxes seem to work fine, menu exit for power on macro works. Most of all though, I despise Cablevision Techs, they get worse and worse. The Fios Techs ive ran into on jobs are trained way better. Ive personally never needed a service call at my house but the original installer was great. The billing dept was a bit flaky way back but has been much better .

around me Fios is not even an option, as they do not seem to even be in the Chicago market - at least just north of Chicago.
So this means for any descent high speed internet my only option is Comcast. At least my TV is still DirecTV. :)
Is it odd to anyone else that one of the largest markets in the country is basically untouched by Fios? [Link: dslreports.com]

ok, so after looking at the areas covered by fios, I have to ask - WTF are these guys thinking about when it comes to areas to provide service in.
really Fort Wayne, Providence (ok at least its near the other east coast areas) & Portland before the Chicago area, how does this make any sense?

Some areas Fios is locked out of because of agreements between cities and Comcast/Time Warner/Etc.
