Forget just games, if they get the Xbox one hardware up and running well with Microsoft Lync, this is a crossover solution on many levels for games, home and business communication. [Link: office.microsoft.com][Link: blogs.skype.com]

People are playing games more, just not on dedicated game boxes, they're using their phones, etc.

Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"... |

PS4 is going to be a far superior gaming console. Sorry, it just will be.
Microsoft will have some pretty big egg on their face with this stupid cablebox control. You all know as well as i do that it is going to be a disaster, and not to mention HDMI handshaking YIKES! especially when an AVR is in the mix. This is going to be a disaster for them and US. I've enjoyed the Kinect. It doesn't replace my favorite games, I'm still a first person shooter fan, but it does offer some new interesting games. I'm interested in seeing the new platform. I like how you "know" this will be a disaster... wouldn't want to let actually trying the tech get in the way of a good rant. Those Pesky facts... LOL

You should be more concerned with smoke detectors. Pretty convenient that they are required by law to be in every home. The flashing red light? The test button just happens to be glass? Looks a lot like a lens to me. Pretty obvious its a surveillance device used by Mr.Obama and his socialist regime.

What is a disaster is Sony's attempt at an online gaming service! The PS4 PSN launch has been a disaster trying to connect to their servers! Watching loading screens and downloads freezing! What a complete joke! Maybe Sony hired the same network programmers that did Obamacare? The Sony fan boys will tell you it's only because everyone is trying to connect on the first day? What's going to happen when more units hit Sony's gaming network infrastructure down the road or a big franchise launches a new game ? Sony are way behind M$ in this area! My PS4 is going on Kijiji after I finish playing Battlefield! I'll swallow the PSN annual fee as a learning experience! SoonOnlyNotYet strikes again!

Can anyone tell me if the same extension cables that were used for the Kinect will work for the One?

Also curious if there are any IR commands possible or if it has to be controlled with the Xbox One controller.
Not sure if the system has to be on for the Kinect voice commands to work (in light of the privacy concerns) but I'm guessing that ON might still have to be done with the controller which would be unfortunate from an automation standpoint.
With the Cable box plugging into (and through ) the Xbox, it will be interesting to see what workarounds will be needed.

I only hope that you can turn "off" Kinect. I did not need it with my 360. I have no desire to play games where I have to stand up and move. This is like the iPhone v. Android fights. There is no "better" side to be on. PS fans are PS fans. Xbox fans are Xbox fans. If you want to play GTA, you get PS. If you want to play Halo, you get Xbox. If you want to play both, you get both. Done. Its all about kids killing zombies and drunk parents trying to bowl and play tennis on their kids' games anyhow.

I initially assumed that they wouldn't remove capability that was in the Xbox 360, and thought I read a thread somewhere that said it would work with the existing media center remote... I did some looking at some forums (at the announcement date), and eventually found an answer that the One would work with the existing media center remote, but don't remember now if Microsoft will be shipping a new remote for the Xbox One, or will continue to sell the old remote. Anyway, the info on the existing Xbox media center remote is here: [Link: support.xbox.com]

I saw that there is an IR Blaster port on the rear of the console. The kinect itself (forward facing?) is a blaster but that won't make a difference if the gear is tucked away somewhere. With the Cable box plugged into the XboxOne, you can use the new interface in Xbox for cable - and I'm assuming you can just attach another IR eye from the xboxone rear to the front of the cable box and it should then work.... time will tell...
Does USB 3.0 have the same length limitations as USB 2.0? For going 25-30 feet, hopefully they come out with an extension cable.
