So 4K is just about here. Sony and LG are shipping TV's, and a Projector, AVR's now have 4K passthrough, and Sony will soon be shipping a 4K player.
So am I safe to tell a customer that buying a (Marantz) AVR that has 4K pass-through will properly work to supply HD content from the forthcoming Sony player to a Sony 4K TV? Over a single 1.4 HDMI cable? What about over an HDBaseT balun that claims 4K capability?

I'd guess so, except for the lack of content. In this industry with this technology I don't assume anything anything anymore.

Since HDMI has been a Godsend for this industry, making things so much easier than they were before, not to mention the fact that you can use a balun that makes things even easier, I seriously doubt there will be any complications whatsoever.
In reality, you answered your own question. All of the products "say" they'll pass 4k. Now you're just in wait and see mode.

we have tested the Denon 3313 and 2313 and its working with the 4K content
We have the Sony demo server installed in our showroom with the Sony 4K projector and we had zero issue in passing the 4k material via the denon so i believe the new line from marantz XX07 should also work .
