What are you guys running for Cameras, Cat5e, RG59 with 18/2, other?

If you are running Cat5e what are you using as converters for the video (for analog camera)?

How are you connecting the power, for analog camera's?
You can't fix stupid

We run RG59 with 18/2. Makes for a cleaner look in the rack. Cat5E for longer runs.

We run Siamese rg59/18-2 and a cat. As we do more with IP, we may just start using two cats.

We use CAT5E almost exclusively. I really don't want to get that call a year or two from now that they want to upgrade the surveillance system and tell them the bad news. We use baluns from either Muxlab or Snap. Use the manufacturer's voltage drop calcs, it's usually not an issue to power over the cat5. Most manufacturers make a balun that uses 3 pairs for power and 1 for video. If that isn't enough guage, 18awg probably wouldn't have been enough either.

Muxlab makes "hubs" for the head end and it's basically a rack mount panel that has 16 baluns built in. You terminate the cabling to a CAT patch panel and patch into the hub and arguably it's just as clean or cleaner than using Siamese wire.

This, plus CAT5e.

Isn't it wasteful to run 18/2 RGX and CatX? I think Catx handles it all.

Power on long runs is better on 18/2 plus rg59 is good backup

2 cat5e or cat6. Supports power and balun. Still can't understand why the mfg don't offer a weathertight balun for cameras on posts where a box would look bad. Or just build it in to the camera where it's already weathertight.

The price for ip is dropping rapidly plus it's a way better picture. I just quoted a system analog and ip and it was nearly equal money.

We partnered with ICR as they have a wide selection of cameras and accessories. 3 or 4 different baluns (active and passive). On the first couple of jobs with long runs I called them and have them tell me what to use. Ended up with passive at the camera and active at the DVR(distance was around 800 feet).

I've read that the 18/2 could be used for heater and/or blower. I don't know how often tamper contacts are used on cams, but that's another option. Someone mentioned that PTZ control could use another cable, too; never used one.

I still run both Siamese and cat5.
Better safe than sorry and 18/2 in the Siamese can always be used for IRs when the IP camera alone is not good enough in the dark.

Absolutely not.  I alway push for an extra pair of  18 AWG, these are for IR Illuminator.  I've dealt with a few project that cameras were installed out in the empty field with zero light.

Also push for Direct Burial rated cable.  Don't ask me why.  Ernie can explain better :)

Same subject, what do you charge? Ours is $180 per cam drop. Includes terminations with nice in wall BNC keystones at rack.

Are you just a cable puller?
