I'm trying to troubleshoot an HDMI/DVI issue with one. It was hooked up with component and the AVR died and got replaced with an Elite. Supposedly cable box via HDMI to DVI converter works fine through the AVR, but an HDMI DVD player does not, and the DVD isn't allowing the HDMI resolution to be changed.

Anyone remember any tricks with these things?

Does the DVD have any output format besides HDMI? If not, can you connect it to a different TV to change the resolution?

It looks like the DVI input does support HDCP, but it only supports PC resolutions and not standard 720p/1080i/1080p. I think the DVD was stuck at 640x480 because of the EDID info it was getting. We used to install the component video input cards that apparently have a built-in scaler and accept HD resolutions.

We got screwed trying to 'upgrade' them to a newer receiver that we didn't realize only had 1 component input and doesn't have upscaling (well that wouldn't have mattered anyway), so the tech ran out and bought a DVI to HDMI adapter and got the cable up and running, then there were these DVD issues, blah, blah, blah. Essentially we have to upgrade them one more step on the AVR to one that has 2 component inputs and go back to component 2x1 switching. The poor tech on site just ended up WAY down the rabbit hole and was about 2 hours from home, and the customer has been waiting forever, and blah blah blah. One of those days.

thx guys.

Is the PDA-5004 (component video card) installed in the card slot? That enables HDCP in the DVI port. Otherwise it's just a computer monitor.

Also, as I recall, the native resolution on that monitor is 1365x768. The Key Digital HD Explorer had a dot-by-dot scaling mode that looked great and gave you 4 more HDMI inputs.

Yeah I think it was the PDA-5004. Surprisingly the DVI would take resolutions up to something like 1600x1200 but it skipped right by 1280x720...
