I have set it up successfully more than several times. You are only at the mercy of the combination of equipment and your own customness to get it to work. :)

+1 find a solution and make your customers happy, unless the display is a Samsung.

I have great luck with on Panasonic GT & VT series.  Output from built-in QUAM Tuner and DLNA play MKV files on Vortexbox.  50' Key Digital Python Series.

In conclusion, ARC works fine as long as it is native out put from the panel.  Result varies if ARC on external sources.

Can't speak for Samsung.  Never been a Samsung fanboy.

Installation on Saturday with Sony LED and a STR-5700 Sony receiver. I always turn HDMI control or snyc off due to problems mentioned with remote systems and the arc worked fine for the tvs built in netflix and other internet aps. The receiver and the bluray also carried the same streaming aps as the tv so job didn't require it (which is probably why it worked lol).
One thing I have learned in this industry. It is easier to pull a wire than it is to push one.

Samsung a will continuously send out CEc commands to change inputs....doesn't work. I have it working on several Integra AVRs and LG and Sony displays.

Here is what I found on this subject. Again, I don't recommend it. I posted about this last year. Our showroom works everyday with this setup. Only if you need this.

I figured out how to use The ARC for samsung tv's and Onkyo receivers.
I have tested this in our showroom and it works pretty well. We are using a digital tuner for our cable hooked into the antenna of the TV.

You must have a HDMI 1.4 hooked into HDMI input 2 on the TV. (Input 2 should say ARC on it)

Set your tv sound settings to output for external speakers

activate anynet feature.

Set your Onkyo receiver exactly like this in the hardware set up for HDMI

Audio TV out : Off
Lip Sync: Enable
Hdmi control (RIHD): On
Audio Return Channel: Auto
Power control: Off

I tried this and it would work fine, except that every 3 minutes when on the bluray or cable box input on the receiver it would switch back to TV/CD. Never could make it work with the Sammy.

The following settings work for me.

Samsung TV

·         Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC): On

·         Auto Turn Off: No

·         Receiver: On (Once you activate this then most of the sound settings are disabled)

Onkyo TX-NR609

·         Monitor Out Resolution: Through

·         HDMI Control (RIHD): On (After this is activated then the next 2 settings can't be changed)

·         HDMI Through: Auto

·         Audio TV Out : Auto

·         Audio Return Channel: Auto

·         Lip Sync: On

I used it once with a Sony TV and YAmaha A820. Got lucky I guess, because it worked with the online services in the TV.

i used ARC once with a Marantz SR5006 and a Samsung 46B7000? TV.  it worked, but I had to put in very long delays (18 seconds or more) in order to get the TV to switch inputs properly when turning the system on.

Not gonna mess with that crap again.
