I honestly would prefer a speaker mounted as you describe vs in the ceiling.  Wall mounted speakers allow sound to propogate into the space much better than in-ceiling.  It's worth the time investment to find locations where furniture/art will likely not be placed.

I am reviewing this quote with the clients tonight and will run it past them. It is cool because the house came with a ton of the modern furniture and its is already in place. These two rooms will be easy to design around.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. This is one of those topics I don't see pop up much but I see the execution in tons of homes.

Bingo. I think a speaker mounted anywhere in a wall will sound better than in the ceiling 99% of the time.

The problem for us with art-speakers is that the interior designer doesn't sell them so he wont approve them.

Agreed. Remember back in the old days, Ernie? We placed our speakers in an equalateral triangle sitting on cinder blocks. I don't think I would have mounted the speakers firing down from the ceiling!!!!

done many systems with speaks down low homie. they were totally fine. worked like a charm.

Fine as long as there aren't too many people in the room, like when he has a party with other potential clients.

Finished house...no problem because you know where furniture will go. Unfinished house...they are going to get covered up. We did a house where the speakers had to be low on the wall in the...

Master Bedroom...Both are covered with 2" of drapery. They sound like speakers covered with 2" of drapery.

Bedroom 2...1 speaker has a painting hanging over the top half blocking the tweeter. Guess what it sounds like?

Living Room..."Can't go in the beautiful ceiling" "Nope not that wall" "Nope not there either" "No speakers in the living room" "Wait what about speakers in the living room". After sheetrock im cutting holes in the wall to put a pair of speakers between 2 pocket doors. The room is like 30X30 and the speakers are 5' apart on a wall behind a cabinet.

Tweeters are ear height is a practice for a dedicated listening room for critical listening. That is not what inwalls are for.

In a distributed audio system that interferes with things that would ordinarily be on the wall at that height... like artwork or pics of their loved ones.

Up high, down low, or in the ceiling. For practical reasons.
