No worries. monitor Audio has a similar product. I think issue with these products is they may be better looking speakers but they aren't designer quality good looking.

The problem for us with art-speakers is that the interior designer doesn't sell them so he wont approve them.

Disclaimer, I am in no way affiliated with this product it is just an example to help my thought process. What if the designer was made aware of the product, or something similar at the beginning of the design process, and that the artwork could be any image, shape or size they wanted. Have any of you had a designer come to you ahead of time or before the design got to involved and include you ( I know) in the total process. This way they could say it was their artwork choice. I am talking visual esthetics here not equipment list at this point. Several, ok all of the designers I have spoke with all had the what's in it for me attitude, versus the what can we do together to WOW the shit out of our client approach.

I think designers are the one industry that is as bipolar as the CI community. I watch designers struggle with what's in it for me mindset. They are also suppose to be charging for their time but they get margin on products. I have worked with them from the beginning on a few projects. For the most part they have just let me do my thing.
I have introduced the monitor audio art pieces to them and most said it would be cool in commercial.

I brought up both the art speakers and invisible speakers to a designer I do work with. She said, "my clients are high end enough for that". Um, they spend multiple thousands of dollars with you to redo their house, let them be the judge on what they want to spend, not you. This same designer emailed me yesterday on a project we are finishing up and said, "After Bonnie gives you full payment, I would appreciate my fee also." We had never worked on a fee, she just came up with this before this job started. Guess I will be tacking on a percentage from now on to both pay for her fee and for dealing with her PITA.

Was this fee for her finding you business? Sort of. She wants a percentage of the profit. A finders fee I can deal with. A percentage, I don't think so.

Problem with artwork speakers is that any true art enthusiast (and most interior designers are well schooled on art history) wouldn't have a generic or copied work of art printed on spandex in their home. Regardless of what style if artwork they like/collect its going to be original or editioned pieces archivaly framed and well presented.

The idea works great when all you're looking for is acoustic wallpaper. I've even gone as far as turning the speaker upside down. I can't EQ just that room and the room is one where there is mainly conversation eg dining or living room. I've also put them in the wainscot versus the wall when people are going to be standing so close that there is no way they will "disappear". I find it amazing how we turn our noses up with this idea. We have to have the speakers at the proper height is as dogmatic as the designers not wanting to see anything.

Tell her you are losing money on the project and that you would be happy to let her share in the losses. Actually, her "Fee" will be significantly less due to her PITAness. The job really was a one to two day gig for me. I had I believe 7 trips there (have to double check the exact amount). All the trips were due to her. I had to rush over there after a long phone call with her yelling because I didn't get there to run wiring for a TV hang in the kitchen. Power and cable were directly below, equipment was to go right below the TV. She called me on Monday to say they started demo. The long phone call came Tuesday morning because they were closing the walls up. I received no notice of when demo was starting or the fact they were closing the walls up the very next day. Ridiculous. So, he fee is proportional with my loss of income due to her own stupidity.

I would be up front with her.
Sorry, you stupid cow, whatever small amount of a "fee" that you demanded, has been ate up by the lack of scheduling and professionalism, which caused me to incur a lot of additional expense.
Biatch...

Thanks you guys. I think i will mount them lower in the two rooms I have concerns with. For the most part i am putting in CWT stuff from Monitor so I have the option of wall or ceiling in any room. CWT's down low on the wall you say?
