Instant headaches from 3d. Samsung glasses are the lightest and easiest to wear IMO. The one thing that irritated me about the glasses was the glare I was receiving inside the glasses. I believe the output of the projector was bright enough to cause to some light to reflect off the back of my theater seats and provide a small glare inside the glasses. It was a little distracting and I will have to test more this weekend as we have another group coming in to watch The Hobbit again. I just find it fascinating this is what we do for a living and nobody likes it or is interested. I was a little nervous posting this thread because I was assuming many of you would ridicule me for never watching a 3D movie (in home/showroom) from start to finish. Turns out nobody has! LOL

3D = Snake oil
Want 3D? Get a really good HD projector and screen. No glasses no gimmicks. It's as close as you can get to being there.

I'm involved in a 3D installation, a BEEEEG one. The screen is like 16x40. Ernie what projector are you using for a screen that size of a screen?

I go because it's a movie I want to see, not because it's a movie in 3D. That has never been a factor in me choosing a movie. If anything, it could be a deterrent. They typically charge more...and you have to wear the glasses, etc., etc., etc...

Ernie what projector are you using for a screen that size of a screen? DPI Lightning 45. This thread reminded me suddenly of the early days of stereo. A sizable percentage of the first records were horrid, typified by the phrase "ping pong percussion," where at least 50 percent of the point of the music arrangements was to MAKE things jump left to right, much like the 3D explosions that put detritus in the air right in front of you. I just looked on Amazon, and that bastion of millions of products had only 61 items. None were in the category "CD." There were some mp3s, but mostly LPs. 3D is kind of like that now. The only thing like ping pong percussion in any sort of modernish recording is the rhythm in Donna Summers' "I Feel Love." That was really great! And even that is more than thirty years old. I just hope 3D can improve the way stereo did.

My opinion on 3D: Don't like it at home, don't like it in the theater. I'm not talking about it from a tech perspective; it simply distracts me from the story-telling of the movie, more than immerses me in it. I spend my time thinking about the 3D effect, or the glasses, or why does one eye look brighter than the other, or... and it totally ruins the movie for me.
Obviously some people like or love it. Totally cool, totally subjective of course.
More objectively, we've installed dozens of 3D TVs and only ever had one client mention using it, and loving it. Didn't do an exhaustive survey, but the various articles seem to support that general public sentiment.

I might be the minority here, but I like it, every movie that comes out in 3D I get in 3d (even if it is a conversion) and watch it in 3D.

I like it. 120" and Epson 6020. But it REALLY depends on the content. Some just suck technically. But, I look forward to the 3d blurays more so than 2d. Disappointed sometimes but when its good, its good! Fun, IMO.
