Is the C31 client network connected? If I use a deca does the C31 get its own IP address? If yes, is the C31 IP controllable?

I've controlled it via IP with Savant but it was not stable.  The clients don't have their own IP address so communication was using the host IP and client MAC address.

Thanks. I'm using RTI - the driver references the IP address, not the MAC address. Does savant let you aim at a MAC or or you setting it up some other way?

I created an account just to respond, heh. I learned the Genie takes 1 IP address and each client takes an additional IP address. I have this little box that has an ethernet wire going to it and it goes to my switch, I heard it's also wifi able, and it then sends the 'internet' connection down the coaxial wire. So instead of Ethernet to the Genie, it's now Ethernet to a device that enables it via Coaxial. The Genie can pick up on this and get an IP address. So my Genie has an IP even though it's not directly connected via Ethernet (even though it has an ethernet port on the back). Now I was tracking down a 'rogue' IP address on my network, trying to figure out what it is, port scanned it, looked up the mac address vendor, etc. and after popping wires on my switches I traced it to this Ethernet to Coaxial device. Looks like the one client device I had in my master bedroom also gets its own IP address. Confirmed by disconnecting just my client device, I couldnt' ping the rogue IP but could still ping the 'Genie'. So yes, if you have a Genie and 1 or more client device's, each will get its own unique IP address via DHCP. I imagine it's because of the on-demand stuff. But it looks like only the Genie's IP can be controlled via API. I have a remote control program on my Android phone and when it scans my network it finds the Genie and I can control the T.V/Genie but it does not see the Client device nor can I control my T.V in my bedroom.

I beg to differ. A client device does have its own IP address. I have ethernet connected to "DirecTV, Wirelss Cinema Connection Kit(DCAW1R0-01)" instead of my Genie unit itself, and both the Genie receive, with MAC address e0:b7:b1:a4:xx:xx, gets an IP, it identifies itself to the DHCP server as DIRECTV-HR34-B1A4XXXX", but the Client Device (C31) also gets an IP, it has a Mac Address of e0:b7:b1:7c:xx:xx, and will not provide a hostname to the DHCP server. Shows up as blank for the hostname to the DHCP server.

What does the screen say when you go to the networking settings on a client device?

For IP control with Savant, all communication is directed to the IP address of the HR34 (or other server) and the MAC address of the individual C-31 box.

Question did this ever get resolved? I am curious? I noticed that the clients do not have a network port (RJ45) but I wasn't sure if the genie master unit was a gateway to the clients (which would be fine if it were reliable)

Thanks!

We always use IP to control DTV on C4 projects. The EV driver calls for the IP address of the Genie and use the room name (i.e.: LR, MB, A) designated for the desired box.

The Savant profile still doesn't work properly. The power on/off commands do not work even though the profile appears to be correct.

Not sure about RTI. I'm controlling a HR44 at home no problem but no clients.

IP is unstable and IR is missing the power commands for Genie clients.  I keep our clients away from the Genie system for now.  Besides control issues the boxes (31's) are slow and unreliable,  and video quality is crap.  I haven't tried whatever their new boxes are yet.

I have controlled the C31 clients via IP with C4 using their "generic" DTV driver. It will show an IP address in the network settings area just like any other receiver. Piece of cake. SO yes, each client has an IP address just like any other ethernet device.

how does the client obtain the ip address?  does it come from your main router or is there a dhcp server built into the Genie?

We still control the DVR IP and the clients IR. No issues with missing power commands.

I do not know the ins and outs of DECA/MOCA (same thing right?), but it seems to me like the clients get their IP address from the router. In our situation, we assigned them a static IP as a requirement of the c4 driver. But when they were first powered on, they received an IP address that was inline with what the router was assigning. I would imagine the DECA system in the genie or the DTV DECA "injector", behaves more like a switch than a router.

I think it just throws people off, and it did to me at first, that there is no RJ45 port on the C31. But if you think of the older HR22 and other boxes that required the DECA "dongle" that split the ethernet out to an RJ45 jack, it makes more sense. The newer receivers essentially have that dongle built in, so it will strip the ethernet off the coax and send it to the network interface internally.
