Actually every Samsung TV with Ex-link port can be controlled via rs232 ( service port or not ) . Here's a part of discussion on that subject from a different forum :

" For the European Samsung models with a Service port instead of a ex-link port, direct RS232 doesn't work because the port is on TTL level.
You have to convert the RS232 control (which is 10-15V) to TTL level (3.3V).
Be aware that direct RS232 input in the Sevice port can damage the Service port!
More you can read at: [Link: wiki.samygo.tv]
There are several (cheap) converters, but the professional one is the B&B Electronics 232LPTTL33 (3.3V edition) (see attachment)
This converter is port powered and don't need a separate power supply and works perfect for us. "

Wow, that was very generous of them, it's normally very difficult to find reps that will supply info like that. What department did you speak with?

Did they say that there are no changes for 2012 and 2013?

Yeah! I thought so too.
I simply emailed the following address I found on their community forum:

Can you elaborate on "service port or not"? Do you mean 232 OR service port, or even without either?
I'm trying to work out how to use 232 via USB or VGA port as I've been reading may be possible.

Every single Samsung we have integrated so far - any LCD , LED , Plasma ( old or new ) had EX-Link port and did not require accessing hotel menu or any other special " tricks " . However , based on what I have read so far , some european Samsung models require additional hardware , mods etc. . Provided link refers to those models and their implementation of rs232 control - via VGA and/or USB connections . I have not tried it and can't vouch for it , provided info was quoted from RTI dealer forum .
One more thing - one of the earlier posts in this thread has a .pdf attachment with rs232 to 3.5 mm pin-out as well as some rs232 commands . Picture of the cable and the pin-out is correct , however those commands are not . Unfortunately those incorrect codes are used in URC CC 232 data base , not sure if they fixed them yet . Correct drivers can be found in RTI , C4 and Crestron data bases / forums .

Thanks for clearing that up for me :)

I'll start looking into the VGA\USB approach.

I can say that there are few Samsungs that the basic commands do not work--power and input selection. I have found that smarthub functions that worked last year no longer work on this year's models. I'll peruse the command list and check via the commands I typically use.

Has anybody found the command to initialize the smarthub features?

Has anyone gotten the rs232 number commands to work correctly with the newer TV's? We have a restaurant job coming up in the Caribbean with some of the 2013 hospitality models and I need access to these commands for my programming.

There are also some other commands that are on the factory remote that I don't see listed on the table that andy hoover provided:
"[Link: vchproject.org]"

I was curious if anyone got the number commands to work or if anyone had any experience with the new hospitality TV's being controlled via rs232.

I could use IR, but would really rather not based on how far away it is...

Anyone have any luck on the new 'F' series televisions? We're using the Crestron module for the 'E' series and can only get the TV to turn ON but none of the other commands seem to work. Anyone else have any luck?

We have a UN65F8000BFXZA that we have tested the Crestron EX Link control with utilizing Crestrons module. Power and input commands work fine. Power feedback also works, but input feedback seems a bit off. Volume control seems to run away though when watching in debugger. Didn't test too many of the other functions, but things like info, enter, exit, directional arrows work as well.

Hi all,

Just to share my experience, I have been successful with RS232 control of a UE55HU7500LXXC, euro model, apparently the same model as the US UN55HU8550 version.

Notes:

1. TTL does not work. This is pure RS232. I tried with a B&B 232LPTTL33 and it doesn't work;

2. I am using a Philips Pronto RFX9600 extender and it works fine with 9600, 8, N, 1 settings;

3. For some reason, I coudn't make it work with any terminal software I tried (TeraTerm, HypeTerm) and even Eventghost. None worked;

4. No changes in the Service Menu are required, it works straight from the box. You may actually disable RS232 control if you do some of the things that you find in the net, such as activating Debug. Keep it in the default UART mode;

5. When you send the power on command, you must add a CR (thanks to Daniel at the Loxone forum for this). This looks like this: 08 22 00 00 00 02 D4 0D. The "0D" is CR in hex. Don't add any more 0D to any other string, just power it up with this string and then use the standard strings for all other commands.

6. Daniel at the Loxone forum reported success with his UE55HU8580. The corresponding US model is either the UN55HU8700 or UN55HU9000.

Hello Laalves,
In our last project we installed a UN78HU9000 controlled with Crestron. The regular power ON command that we have use before would turn the TV ON and then OFF about 10secs later. I wonder if the CR solves that problem. At the time, the solution was an IR emitter!!

Hi there!

I was able to turn the UE40HU6900 OFF or change Inputs or the volume but I was not able to turn the tv ON from standby mode.

Do I need to change something in the Service Menu?

Thanks for all your help!
