Hey, is there some software around that will let a person plug ONe camera in to something and then view it?

I was at a training yesterday and it struck me that in order to look at just one camera, every brand out there seems to need a full-blown NVR. I mean, to demo the cameras themselves to a client, you have to bring the recording equipment. I'm not saying they would not want an NVR. I'm just saying that back in horse an buggy days, when someone wanted to show how much better a car was, they didn't have to bring the whole auto shop to the demo!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Could this be what you were after? I haven't used it but it seems to fit the bill.

btw: cnet hosted downloads are pretty safe in my experience but make sure your a-v software is up and about just in case.

bttw: terrible analogy
Thank you for your considered response

Hi Ernie,

Doesn’t the camera provide a web interface? You should be able to put it on the network and access it through a browser. Hope this helps.

I think some of the Vitek IP cameras have built in webservers so you can just point your browser to it and view it.

Planet IP cameras do not need a plug in and work fine on any browser and can also store videos directly to an SD card or stream to a nas.. no NVR is required. you can even view recordings on the web interface

This might be what you're after. Check out first 2 pieces of equipment on this page. I have the first one myself.

I have yet to encounter an IP camera that wouldn't work standalone.

Most IP cameras have web-based viewing. No NVR required.

Cameras are good for the price, software is BAD.
