I am trying to control both the main and second zone volume with one button press while in Party Mode on a RX-A820. I set the memory volume so both zones will have the same volume level when Party mode is turned on by using the Volume Recall code. Now the problem is there are no Party Mode volume commands or All Zone volume commands. I tried creating a macro on a button for volume up with codes for both zones volume up. Did the same for down. I tried different repeats, and of course no repeats. Any repeat will result in only the first code firing. So main zone volume will ramp up or down, but zone 2 will volume code will not fire. With no repeats, you have to repeatedly press the button and it takes what feels like minutes to get any real volume change. Any ideas on if this is possible to get volume control for both areas on one button?

edit: Control is handled by a URC MX890 and MRF350.

I'm almost positive that what you are trying to do is not possible with one button.

A possible workaround would be to create a volume page for party mode. You could put a page jump on the vol + and vol - buttons. It would them jump to a page that would have the volume and mute commands on the LCD screen for both of the zones. This won't given them one button volume control, but it will give them access to controlling the volume in each area.

You could also put a done button in the bottom right corner with the navigate -command on it to jump back to whatever source the customer was using. One of the other guys I work likes doing this, but I prefer separating the volume for each of the zones.

I currently have the last page of each device setup with a Party Mode button, and volume up, volume down, and mute of the zone 2. The main zone is controlled by the regular volume buttons.

It seems like a no brainer to create a code that will control volume on both zones simultaneously. The two reasons for Party Mode, as explained by a Yamaha trainer at a training session I attended, was to a) eliminate having to run analog audio cables, and b) eliminate a delay induced echo between zones in adjacent areas. Being that Yamaha (According to this trainer) claims that one of the two purposes is to have the music playing in adjacent areas, there should be a way to control volume across the entire area with a single button.

I agree completely it almost makes the party mode useless.

I do know that they are no IR or hex codes on Yamaha's dealer website (ypab) for party mode volume. I also slightly recall asking my rep about this awhile back and him telling me that it wasn't possible. Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer I just can't remember.

We use the Yamaha receivers on a lot of our jobs so if you figure out a way to make it work let us know.

Yeah, I went through the codes on YamahaPAB. I setup the Party Mode button to turn party mode on and set both zones to a certain volume. I set the volume memory by accessing the receivers web control page, and aliased the volume recall code for that memory setting. I was hoping to then ramp the volume up and down with one button for each. No luck.

I did call my Yamaha rep to talk about this. He called back a bit later than expected so I will be talking to him tomorrow and will let you know if I find anything out.

Are you guys saying that the volum of Zone 2, when in Party mode, is not adjustable with the Zone 2 volume commands?

I do know that they are no IR or hex codes on Yamaha's dealer website (ypab) for party mode volume.

That could be interpreted as meaning "volume control for all zones" or "volume control for Zone 2 when in party mode."

If there's no Zone 2 volume adjustment in party mode, that thing is a boat anchor, and a stupid one at that. If Zone 2 volume is adjustable in party mode, looks like you'll have to adjust the two areas separately. This doesn't seem to be too much of a problem to me unless a) your client is a control freak who likes to turn the music up and down, or b) the music source is various downloaded and possibly stolen files at various volume levels, requiring constant adjustment.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I thought that the delay issue was only fixed with the video zone 2 not audio.

Party mode utilizes the HDMI's audio coming in from sources and pumps that to both the main zone, and zone 2/3 eliminating delays in audio. The main zone will be pushed into a 7 channel stereo while in party mode.
