I'm on the phone with Niles. I want to know if the MF1 IR emitter has a white stripe on one of the wires.

See, Xantech changed the appearance of theirs to an ugly purple diamond, and the wire now has a white stripe. I want plain black. All LEDs are ugly enough without calling attention to them with a white stripe and a purple reflection.

And to talk to someone at Niles, I must wait in queue for a person to take my company information; a friggin' case number is then assigned. Then I'm on hold for another while (3 mins this time) before a tech comes on the line and asks for the case number.

They have a white stripe. Rats.  And only a quarter of an hour trapped on the phone to find out.

I'll never again hassle anyone here for asking us before calling the company.  What a waste of electrons and air!

Anyone know of a good IR LED that is not ugly and just has black wires?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I may still have a box full of 283M emitters... the previous ones. I'm guessing those are the ones you liked with no stripe?
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

As much a I like xantech, that whole group (xantech, niles, elan etc) has become one big cluster..

My 3 favorite things about this emitter:

1. Removable base
2. No blast shield required, emits only toward equipment
3. Clear base included if you want visual feedback.  Red if you dont.

I'm still rocking URC emitters. Besides the recent snafu they have been solid emitters and they look as good as an emitter can look. Haven't had to buy them in a long time because they are always bundled with base stations but I'm pretty sure you can get them a-la-carte.

I've always liked the look of Control4's emitters. They'd be perfect if they didn't have OPAQUE double-sided foam sticky tape for adhesive! Those from RTI linked above look nice.

Preaching to the choir. I seriously can't handle calling tech support anymore. I wish all companies would just create an internet forum and have techs be the mods. When the dummy techs cant answer something the real tech gets alerted and can answer you while you are sleeping or driving home or anything other than sitting there with your phone stuck to your face.

I like RTI emitters, but the bases don't seem to stick all that well... I pop the base off and hot glue the emitter / no base... Nice and low profile.

I also like C4... they do stick.

I remember calling Nies tech support with a bad amp I needed an RMA for. Talked to an actual tech with about 1 minute, spent a couple more walking me through a few tricks to try, another minute to get an RMA. Sent the unit it that day and got it back TWO DAYS later fixed, and at no charge.

I miss those days.

+1

LMFAO that there's another human installer out there that's bothered by the white stripe problem...Both of our moms must've had a square nipple.

Perhaps there's a back-room deal between Xantech and Sharpie...?

I like the Niles emitters, but talk about clueless. The MF1 comes with a great flasher cover but no visual feedback. The MF1VF has visual feedback but DOESN'T come with the flasher cover. I wand the visual feedback for trouble shooting but I don't want to see the flashing lights when I'm done. Or if I have multiple cable boxes in a rack the flashers need to be covered.

The RTI Emitters stick just fine, you need to put a fair amount of pressure down on them to get initial adhesion though.
