I was priveleged a couple of month ago to hear a JBL Syntehsis system with three Everests as main speakers, eight subwoofers, and eight surrounds. Each Everest is powered by a Mark Levinson No 53 mono power amp, and the subs and surrounds use a total of 16 JBL S820 power amps. It played after the first pass of an SDEC system's equalization and balance.
For the first time EVER, I heard a system that sounded real and that just defined that term I've heard over and over about high end audio: effortless. When loud, it just sounded louder, instead of sounding like it was reaching the end of its ability to play loud.
I just heard Andrea Bocelli on Good Morning America singing a "Mediterranean love song" that I think is called Cuando, Cuando, Cuando.
That man is the thousand watt Mark Levinson amplifier of singers.
Every syllable and note was effortless, including the few high emphasized notes that were probably not on the original score. It all sounded like he had plenty of performance headroom, while next to him a violinist looked like she was giving it her all just to make a flourish with her bow. And she looked like she was overdoing it.
The man is incredible!

The man is incredible! +1 After a rough day of work I switch from my usual music on my drive home to Andrea Bocelli and by the time I get home even my wife's sarcastic comments don't faze me...

For me it is the Telarc recording of "Rhapsody in Blue". [Link: www2.concordmusicgroup.com]This never fails to take the edge off. In the morning it is Booker T and the MG's greatest hits. "Time is Tight" (full cut) is my drive tune. If that does not get me up I turn to Billy Idol. Petty the fool in front of me when "White Wedding" is playing.

My favorite is Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman singing Time To Say Goodbye.
Both make it look so easy.

Too bad he's a jerk. We sang with him several times, and he was never anything but rude to everyone around him. Total diva.
Plenty of other tenors in the world.

Plenty of other tenors in the world. Wow! I would never have thought that but having family in show biz I am sure he is a diva... Love the Rhapsody in Blue, though, Brent. Too bad United Airlines had to use it in their commercial years ago.

You should look up the first recording of Rhapsody in Blue, an acoustic one, or the second, using mikes, by Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra with Gershwin at the piano. It is a COMPLETELY different piece of music!
This is driven home in the original at the end of the first side (of the 12" 78), which precedes the first (I believe) extended piano solo, when the orchestra ends their parts with four notes that, in the original, can be confused with boop-boop-ba-doop! Recordings since have classificated the music. It was commissioned for a concert celebrating jazz, and simply is not that any more.

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions. |

Talent doesn't make it okay to be an a**hole. If it did, nobody would ever complain about how harsh we sometimes are around here with newbies.
