Hey guys... lately i got about 5 or 6 bad MTX-3s.... 3 with broken power buttons after a week of use ( different customers ), one says charging even out of the dock, and when docked it does not charge, the other does not communicate via USB and has a Console.exe application error message on the screen, what the heck is going on?

Very bad luck or are you guys experiencing problems as well?

Out of how many? We've installed maybe 20 and had 2 problems reported, both involving the scroll wheel causing the selection menu to jump around erratically.

I have an MTX-3 that I use personally. Dropped it once from the arm rest and the power button went bad. I suspect that is what your customer did to it. The unit has no blemish but the button will not work anymore.

On charging, the unit does not always seat right. I have to wiggle it to seat. It is not a big problem but it is easy to get it wrong.

So I would say it is poor design that is triggered by user action.

Haven't had bad luck with the MTX3 yet...PTX3 I have about 3-4 in stock with the charging problem which was a known issue (at least I heard about it a lot from different dealers). MLX3 I don't even want to think about. I have swapped 7 of 8 from one job and 6 of 8 from another. All with scroll wheel or power button issues. Some even had both.

Yes, I've had a couple of MTX3's with broken side triggers and power triggers. I have to swap one out again this week as a matter of fact. I don't spec them into jobs anymore for this reason. The MLX3 is less expensive and prefer this one

Every 1st gen M/PTX3 & TPMC-3Xs the top and side buttons went bad. Crestron did a redesign on all buttons and now we never see problems with the buttons unless the unit is dropped.

I have had 2 clients 'do nothing' but the screen has come lose causing the remote to no longer function. See above for the cause of this problem.

Nearly ALL of them have had a problem with charging due to the design of the remote and dock, I just got my own unit back due to this problem.

I've had the screen come loose before also. Everything seems to work but the touchscreen can't be "touched". No signs of damage anywhere yet the ribbon has come undone. Unsure if they've dropped it or what. Wether I should or not, we just fix this in field. couple minutes with a small screwdriver and it's good as new.

my 'done nothing' have both also shown damage to the case indicating it has been dropped. But according to the clients they only use the remote on Sundays on the way to and from church, so to speak.

Oh yeah, sorry about that. Not a big fan of the MTX3. Installed maybe 4 with no real problems though.

I've had a single client go thru 4 of these PTX3 remotes (prodigy version of MTX3), once dropped they become problematic, either buttons no longer work or the touchscreen goes out. The charging docks fall apart too... middle contact on each dock becomes loose and falls out, and the client can no longer charge the remote because of this. On one dock the gold contact in the middle was "flaking" off and the remote couldn't get a solid connection for charging.

I have had 5 top/side button failures, 1 touch screen separate, 3 charging dock failures (two the middle contact fell out, 1 the power cord/dock connector failed). Also have a couple docks with varying degrees of corrosion on the charging button.

One out of 2 installed last week came with a battery that would not get to beyond halfway charged. Battery was conditioned and now works.

My guess is they are generally fragile remotes. Not for houses with children, adults who party too much or people who fall asleep with the remote in bed and have it fall off during the night.

Also had 2 bad MLX3s in a row. 1st failed within a month, advance replacement unit wouldn't accept programming.

Hate to say this but Crestron seems to be slipping. The new RA/Advance replacement policy kinda scares me too.
How many people get the equipment ordered, delivered, installed, programmed, debugged and into daily use within 90 days, especially on large projects.
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.
