Or you can get a can of PAM cooking spray.  I've installed a bunch of dishes, I personally think Dish heaters are a complete waste of money.

I've heard of both scenarios, I've never used either one of them.  I've had DirecTV for at least 10-15 years.  I've never went outside and wiped snow or ice off of it.  I'm in MI, you're in NY, so I'd assume the elevation of the dish is roughly the same at about 37 degrees, at 37 degrees, if snow did accumulate on it, it'll just slide off.  It's not tilting up enough to form a bowl.

I agree, I had DTV and never really had an issue. Here in NJ we dont get that much snow. Customer is insisting they get a dish heater though, and while im running the coax to the dish location i might as well run some 16/2 or something on that order. I like the pads that stick to the back, but i think they require an actual outlet at the location. maybe just place them on their for a placebo effect :)

never use PAM....it will thicken over time and stuff will stick to it....we had one that took 2hrs of goo gone.....use rainx, silicone, auto wax

Yes, Slimline and SWM dishes are the same dish, different LNB's.
