I'm replacing my personal MX-900 that has failing buttons with a MX-980. I loved pushing the limits of my programming on the MX-900, running multiple zones and displays on it. The test was always to hand it to my wife and see if she could make it do what she wanted without help. She'll give it one good shot, but it's too hard, she gives up, so it's a good test.

I can easily replicate the programming of my 900, but since I'm not programming much these days I don't know extras of the 980 very well at all. I know it can do some cool stuff beyond the older remotes, but haven't seen many examples of trick programming or graphics on one.

What do you guys like to do to really customize the 980 display?

Graphic wise, one thing I have been lazy about u could do is to make the page tabs right (stacking effect of multiple pages within device.)

When I choose "Cable" on my 980, Darth Vader says "Yes, my master." When I go back to the main "Watch" page, he says "What is thy bidding, my master?" The THX audio clip from the late '90s plays when I switch to Blu-ray.

Instead of "Please Wait" screens during macros, I do multiple page flips where the "source" device's brand logo is displayed while the macro fires.

My 980 controls 2 rooms with a 2-zone AVR. When using "shared" sources in the 2nd zone, and I turn off zone 2, the remote tracks whether the source is still being used in the main zone and either turns it off or leaves it on accordingly.

I use a PS3 for Blu-ray playback (with Audio Authority BlueBeam for control). I set up two different "activities" using the PS3--one with buttons most often used for BD playback on the first page, and one with buttons for other functions like music server operation on the first page.

My next endeavor is to make the remote operate a Control4 HC-300 alongside my current setup (I need to utilize the C4 on-screen navigator to control a Grace Digital Internet radio tuner).

Since this isn't in the URC forum, I'll post my favorite trick to do with a MX-980...... Swap it out with a T2C+. ;)

I love these graphics...

And if I am missing a source or need a custom button I just use photoshop or gimp with one of the blank buttons provided in the fusion package and make my own button.

Lots of variables for tracking power, volume, rooms, etc...

No weird backgrounds (. Just a nice clean remote with simple icons that's easy to use.

The MX980 is a much better remote than the MX900, especially for multizone.

Oh, that is priceless.

The first control system I had about 20 years ago, I had a "romance" scene and when you pushed it ... nothing happened.
