Good lord that's a lot of work to polish a turd! It's commonplace in many industries... If the device works, it works. Put your emotions aside for a minute. I use their HDMI to YPbPr widget exclusively and sure don't sell it for $38.25... For instance - just recently a customer of mine says that they want this particular chair for their room. A bad mamajama seven leg 24/7 three way independent lumbar support independent headrest independent three axis armrest chair. He gave me a very specific part number, a BANANACORP XYZ123... A little research on the BANANACORP XYZ123 turned up that the XYZ123 was in fact manufactured by ORANGECORP. You guessed it, I could buy the ORANGECORP model for half the price. BANANACORP was an interior design / office furniture contractor.

FWIW we put electrical tape over the Monoprice logo. Fundamentally though, who cares. You have two possibilities....buy a $400 piece and sell it for $800. Buy a $200 piece and sell it for $800. Or....buy a $200 piece and sell it for $600, make the same margin and save your customer a few bucks.
Fundamentally, the bare bones of all of these are the same. And I don't want to come across as a Monoprice fan boy, but I have yet to break their HdBaseT baluns. Their dual cat works but is tempermental. The HDBaseT is rock solid.

After dealing with some HDMI baluns from a well known distributor/manufacturer i will spend more and i will make my clients spend more. Maybe HDbaseT is different and maybe the fundamentals are the same but no way am i going to sacrifice my name and time for a few bucks. We all know what HDMI is like and even the best have fallen because of it. When it comes to HDMI there are no sacrifices.

We all know what HDMI is like and even the best have fallen because of it. When it comes to HDMI there are no sacrifices. It's all the same Valens chip. I can't tell you how many hours of testing we did before deploying. I cobbled together the grizzliest combination of patch cords, couplers, keystones, and otherwise...about 250' worth, way more than we'll ever use....and then set out to watch 1080p video on various displays. Zero issues. So now I deploy with confidence. I don't put anything out into the field that I haven't rigorously tested first. And not just Monoprice like stuff. Even big name stuff. I'm currently testing [Link: monoprice.com] which is an HDBase-T Lite. I'm not using it as a splitter, single output. I'm at 150' of cobbled together lengths and 1080p with no issues. It's not full bandwidth like the full HDBaseT, but it's a budget extender solution....and because it is HDBaseT, there's no worry of RF/EMI interference.

It still does on Amazon: [Link: amazon.com]Regardless, it works perfectly at an aggregate of 150ft of coupled together CAT5e lengths....and 1080p resolution. No sparklies or other major issues. So for $88, I'm pretty confidently going to say it works as advertised.

Maybe I'm being naive, but I am surprised integrators on here would buy things from (the retail website) Monoprice and then double or triple the price for their client (sometimes taping over the name apparently). Seems slimy to me.
I thought that's why we had *relationships* with direct vendors and distys that took care of us.?

I thought that's why we had *relationships* with direct vendors and distys that took care of us.? I don't need hand holding for an HDBaseT extender. I'll buy it and test it myself to see how it works. If it works just the same as another extender that's twice as expensive, that means the client is paying WAAAAAY more for the other extender, for absolutely no reason. I do my due diligence so I can sleep properly at night. I know what applications work and don't work. I'm not throwing it in there just because it's the cheapest thing out there. I'm throwing it into systems because I know there's no reason to spend any more money on a different flavour of the exact same thing. That leaves more budget to do cool programming or some more lighting control, or whatever. Monoprice sells a LOT of crap that quite simply doesn't work. Their HDBaseT (and the 1x2 I mentioned above, whatever platform it uses) work flawlessly. When I manage to break it, I'll let you guys know right away.

I didn't see hdbaseT mentioned on any of the Monoprice pieces.

But cheap Chinese manufactures never lie. But just keep using it, you'll be fine. Oh, just because you put together a torture test in your shop, doesn't mean you will get the same results in the field everytime. And we'll see if the failure rate holds up on these over the long term and quanity.
