There are two rules of the electronics business that never seem to change....

1. Sales of commodity items don't scale down well... That's why little guys like us bitch and moan about lack of margin in TV's etc. WalMart, Target, Costco are the future for these items. It's profitable on a large scale (big box) but not on a small scale (CI's)

2. High expertise services do not scale up well. That's why The big boys can't succeed at what we do. They keep trying, failing, and trying again. In the end it leaves everyone everyone looking bad.

Geek squad at Target will end up like Sonos at Target...... Failure.
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

Sounds like they're getting ready to spin off the Squad from the store. Let him take the store private, we'll take our squad and go play in the neighbor's yard.

"It is a very smart and strategic initiative for both retailers," Flickinger said. "It benefits Target because Target sells more high-end consumer electronics."

Maybe he's saying "Target (then) sells more high end CE" (because they now have the amazing GS)

Either way, it ain't gonna happen. They have been beating their head against the "installation" wall for at least 4 years. What are they thinking? I can only imagine they have a lower return rate for "installed" TVs, I guess.

After OnForce and Installs inc, what makes them think another third party (gs) will be any better. The problems lie on the front end - bad sales people, no process etc. I did a handful of Target installs years back, its just hang and bang with molding/raceway to cover a few wires.

That said, IF Best Buy could pull this deal off effectively, they could muscle their way into other big stores and do the same thing (costco etc) You know BB is getting their money for the service, its up to the stores to sell it....
