Large High School. Wants about a 1/2 dozen tv's for advertisements. The network administrator wants to control what goes on all tv's. Tv's will display the same thing at once. distance can be up to 1500 feet or more away from tv to tv. Is digital signage the only way to do this? Network drop to each tv with a digital signage box with hdmi output synced with the network?

Is there a better way?

Look at their commercial division.

to many variables, what is it they want to do, do they want to advertise the exact same thing in all the rooms or separate things on the screens depending on the wing and the type of students in those classrooms?

i assume its the first where its the same thing on all the screens at once, if so just do a matrix switch or modulator like zeevee and use roku's new digital signage system, its simple to use and has some pretty cool features. its so easy to use the school's students could run the system.

what type of advertisements? you could even offer a really crude method and just use power point, i mean this is a school. Is it really advertising they are trying to sell or is it school announcements throughout the building?

we need more info, if you dont have it i suggest you give your contact a call and get a clearer explanation of what they want to do. if they want individual screen control then they are going to have to go with a large Digital signage network with individual boxes behind each TV or use a digital signage solutions from LG/Panasonic

There a scads of digital signage boxes out there; I think Tightrope Media is top shelf. I'd take the output of that via vga into a zeevee modulator. You can than easily add additional displays inexpensively.

I think Fred has hit it with the ZeeVee idea. That lets you put all channels on all TVs without the need for switching in the office; gives you instant choice at the TV as to which program you'll be watching. If it needs to be controlled by the principal, this isn't the way to go, but otherwise, gee, how could you even think of running HDMI when RG6 can easily go a mile? Oh, yeah -- when you add a channel in the future, it's automatically added to all TVs.

What does this mean? One TV might be 1500 feet from the central office, the next one 3000 feet from the office, the next 4500 feet from the office? Or each one could be up to 1500 feet from the office, but not necessarily from other TVs? Incidentally, I don't see how distance from TV to TV is an issue unless you really do want to use RF. By the way, I design and install TV signal distribution systems....

Is digital signage the only way to do this? Network drop to each tv with a digital signage box with hdmi output synced with the network?

When you say "synced," is this an issue of exactly simultaneous output, or just of the same stuff everywhere, like when you sync your google contacts?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

ZeeVee is the bomb with this kind of situation. Slap in some RG6QS to each TV having a QAM tuner and you're good to go on the front end.

OT: why in the world do they need to have advertising in high school these days? That's just crazy. Hopefully it's just for educational and scholastic sports info and not traditional revenue generating adverts.

Check out Brightsign

brightsign.biz

I just posted a thread about them a few weeks ago.  I used it, was very happy with the results, HD, Networkable if needed, or simple SD card,  easy to install, easy to administer. It will do everything you want, you can also connect RSS Feeds or Twitter.

Put something like this in the hands of a creative person, he could really go crazy with it.

Where they want different content on each TV the a digital signage solution is the better choice versus RF distrubution. Many of the digital signage solutions also control the displays via RS-232 from a small form factor PC that mounts on the back of the display. With this it can change inputs, go to a particular channel, turn the display on and off, etc based on a pre determined schedule. Why have them on during class for instance? Or all night for that matter. If you are working with an IT guy, these things will matter as they are all about control. With a true digital signage solution all you will pull to each location is Cat5 and RG-6 if you want the displays to tune cable.
