I just recieved an email stating that Sonos is shutting down their PA warehouse and all shipments will be fulfilled from California.

This annoys me, not only is that a 5 day shipping time for me (i was used to 1) but shipping costs go up around 20%, thats on top of their already outrages shipping charges for something that doesnt provide much margin

WTF! its not like they are hurting, us northeast dealers should atleast keep our shipping rates, and if they really wanted to take care of us we should also get an upgrade to 2 day or at the very least 3 day!

First I've heard about it. Will be devastating for us. I'll probably just pass on them from now on and we've done about 100 zones so far this year.

It's still faster than some others out there.

Do you not have a local distributor/rep? Try and find out...you can pickup product at their location, avoid shipping fees when using will-call and still get your direct pricing (assuming you are direct).

My dist sent me the email a week and half ago which was good timing because it was literally a half hour before i was placing an order, so i had to go with 2 day shipping. They recently switched delivery carriers and had lowered the rates, but now its a little more due to coast to coast, but i think its still not bad, ill have to go look at the invoice

I thought the only way to get sonos was dealer direct. I know my local rep does not WH the product.

Not true, at least here for us; as I said you can be direct with local pickup. Who knows what it's like in your neck of the woods. We have a local distributor/rep of Sonos and other lines that we can opt to will-call; they actually stock the stuff. Check into it...given the already crappy margin on the product, saving shipping would almost make it worth while :-)

just checked invoice....i ordered 2 connects and a play3...
2-day shipping was 39.00
standard shipping was somewhere in the 12.00 - 15.00 range...if i remember correctly...i dont think its too bad, the real issue is the 5 day wait

Interesting....

It has been dealer direct until very recently. Our NEW rep is also a "stocking" rep for Sonos.

It also seemed that our Sonos orders were fulfilled by Ingram Micro. Shipping boxes, labels etc were virtually identical to Ingram's other "drop shipped" products. Most recent shipment did not have the Ingram packaging (although I did not pay too close attention to it so I could be wrong)

Now I wonder if Sonos has taken stocking and fulfillment in house? Perhaps the reps will become local warehouses for the CI channel and Sonos will handle the big guys directly? They've probably gotten big enough to do this.

I guess it's wait and see.

Im direct, My rep is a stocking rep but those are held mostly for the non-direct dealers. If i get stuck i can give them a call but they have requested I order from sonos, i guess since this announcement im going to say "that tough" you can tell your contact at sonos that if they are going to do this then they need to give us a break on shipping and get automatic upgrade to two day free of charge or all my orders will be through YOU!

its really annoying, i love sonos because i get in and out but the margins are too tight especially for my shipping rates to raise 20%

I have to ask:

Many CI's say they've ceased selling TV's due to low margins. So why would the same CI's bother with Sonos and the "next to nothing" margin?

On the way to being killed by its own success, perhaps? I hope not!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

well its not next to nothing margin, its a hell of alot more then TV's :). i sell it because i make a huge amount of money with it, it allows me to offer custom solutions with sonos that they cannot get from worst buy or target. It opens the door to alot of custom work and customers simply love it, the word of mouth that spreads with a happy sonos customer is crazy!

i dont really sell the play 3's or 5's. I only sell them for a bathroom, small room or garage. everything else is pretty much custom work with Inceiling/inwall speakers.

on every quote i do i just throw in a CONNECT, that opens the door for alot of things as well! its a great product and you can make money with it, not so much with the actuall products but with the CI products that go along with sonos

I don't understand why people say next to nothing margins when they aren't much less than Denon or Onkyo's and they fail a lot less!
