Need to run alarm to a detached garage from the main residence (about 100ft in conduit). Looking for input on 22/4 and 18/2 that is outdoor rated. Is it necessary if it's run in conduit? I've found CMX-rated cable, but I believe it is only for UV and not water resistance. Thoughts?

Use irrigation/sprinkler control wire. Conduit will still get wet and that wire is meant for that and the proper gauge.

Thank you. Can this wire be run inside the building (residential)? Or do you break it out at the entry?

+1 for sprinkler wire. I suppose you don't have to use burial if you use a conduit, but I see electricians all the time putting NMWU in conduit.

Use conduit if you want to make the cable more "shovel proof".

Straight in. But some DB cable is pretty stiff. Then again, a splice is probably more inconvenient.

Even in a buried conduit, you do have to use an outdoor rated cable.

i have used DB Flooded Cat5 and tied the pairs together, and could use DB 16/2 speaker wire.
