I agree, but not all amps have switched outlets any more.
The ABS-1 IS a signal switching device. I think you meant the SPK-1. The SAS-1 is available for anyone who has to have only one SKU and has money to burn, too.
What's a BAM? Boy did I mess up my acronyms.... Never trust a dyslexic engineer. Post edited to correct my brain fart.

I have a T Shirt that says DYSLEXICS UNTIE. I thought it was a joke at first, because the OP had written bam! at the start of one of his posts. On August 1, 2012 at 16:14, Zohan said...

the spk1 is awesome!!!!!!! i use often and for the past 10 years. goes in almost every system i do. you can use a 12v trigger if th ereciever has one...marantz/ yammy do. ABs 1 is good too, ive used it w great luck. i actually like the spring clips better than the spk1 terminals. ABs1 is audio sensing, they both work the same

Why not just make sonos a source on the theater receiver and have the receiver turn on?
Never mind... i realized after i typed the sentence above that you would have to hold two remotes (sonos and the receiver) thanks to no control of sonos. You give the client one remote and turn off most of the speakers in the system to listen to music. Something that still makes me cringe...

I think it's the spk-1. Scenario is: Met with potential client. Part of what he wants to do is to have audio from sonos over his home theater speakers in addition to audio from the receiver, to same speakers. Receiver most likely denon. Is the spk-1 what I need? Doesn't Sonos have a line level out that could easily be added as in imput to the Denon AVR?

One other way to do it which is funky but can work IF the receiver has front left/right pre-outs.
Set up front left/right speakers attached to a ZP120. Feed the receivers front left/right pre-outs into the line level in on the ZP120. Set up the ZP120 line level input to automatically switch over when sensing a signal (in this case from the receivers front left/right pre-outs). You can tell the ZP120 to always go to a certain volume level when it senses that audio signal. It's OK if that volume setting is high, because when the customer goes back to playing music from his music library, the ZP120 will default back to the prior volume level. Of course this may mess with the sound a bit since you're using the Sonos amp to drive the front left/rights. The SPK1 I'm sure is probably the best option if there is trigger or switch ac outlet.

To be honest, I get so much functionality out of the new Yamaha RX-AX20 line of receivers that for most basic one or two zone installs, I do not need Sonos. I can stream anything with Airplay directly to the receiver from an iTouch device or within iTunes on the computer. The receiver already has net radio. That combined with Pandora and iHeart Radio gives most clients WAY more than they could ever possibly want. Just finished up a job today with a RX-A720, a Episode 8 CH amp, and currently 3 zones running off the zone 2 (through the amp). Client does not care about not having the ability to play separate sources outside at the same time. He is thrilled with the outcome, and loves the Yamaha app.
