Hey guys was wondering if anybody else may have experienced an issue I am having, and/or know a fix for it. We installed a JVC DLA-HD950 in a hotel bar with a Directv receiver hooked up to it through component video. The com ponent video is supplied through Niles C5-HDDA cat-5 baluns and about 100 ft of cat-5. There is also a computer hooked up to the VGA input of the projector, but we have unhooked that for testing purposes.
The problem we are having is while viewing Directv there are black lines that will flash across the screen. Sometimes they flash continually and sometimes occasionally, but eventually the screen will freeze. The only way to unfreeze the picture is to either cycle the inputs or the power, which seem to be the only commands that work from the projector remote while the picture is frozen. Also if I change the channel on the Directv while the picture is frozen the picture stays frozen on the same image, but after a input cycle of the projector the picture comes back on a different channel.
We have already sent the unit in for repair and they replaced the main board from my understanding, but the problem persists. We have tried hooking up different Directv Receivers that we know are working correctly and same problem. Also tried hooking up a DVD payer up to it using the same baluns, cables etc... and that worked no problem. I have been in contact with the JVC tech and he thinks he remembers some kind of compatibility problem with Directv and this specific model projector, and is trying to get an answer from engineering. But if anybody has anyideas in the meantime I would really appreciate it. Thanks

I believe it is at 1080i and that is on our list of things to try. One bit of information I left out is the prievious projector had no problems. Also our demo JVC DLA-RS40 we lent them when the 950 went in for repair had no problems. Same cables, same baluns, same directv receiver set to the same resolution.

Well, with that info: I would say that it can't be anything else but a problem with the JVC 950. Which also limits what you can do about this, as the ball is in JVC's court to fix the issue.

1) Have you tried an HDMI balun with the DirecTV? If that works, might be a solution.
2) Sell them the RS40? It works :)
3) If a lower resolution works from the DirecTV, roll with that until JVC comes up with a firmware update to fix issue (if they ever do).

[edit]: I don't know on this model but previous models of JVC projectors, the VGA input bypasses most of the processing. Could try a HDMI to VGA, or even a component to VGA converter and use a VGA switcher for the DirecTV & PC.

It's not likely, but it might help a bit to mention the DirecTV receiver model numbers. Frinstance I recently had problems with an HD receiver and a DVR was suggested because the receiver had "a known problem" (not that I knew about it!) but the DVR did not.

You say you've tried more than one DirecTV receiver, but not more than one model. Might matter. Might not. The only way to say is to try several.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Switching resolutions did not fix the problem, but swapping the component baluns for hdmi baluns did. Only problem I had after that was the hdmi baluns were giving out crazy rf and locked up my control system. Called the wyrestorm tech support and they say they never heard of that happenig before, but as soon as i plug the power for the balun in the status light on the rfx antenna lights up solid. Relocated the rfx and solved the problem but still find it weird that the balun caused that much interference. Also Ernie the receivers were H-22's and I did try 1 H-24 all with the same results.
