The way PoE works on switches is the port detects if it's a PoE device and only sends power if the device needs it. You can plug a non-PoE device into a PoE port and it will work fine.*
*assuming network equipment that isn't some crazy off-brand made in a shady warehouse somewhere

Pakedge works fine for me. One issue I did have is they sent me a bad firmware update on my last job. I blew 3 hours trying to make the WAP work. Nice thing, though, was the next day I was on site getting everything working and the tech support gal that sent me the bad and then good firmware update called to check on my progress on the job.
I have never had anyone's tech support to call me after the fact. That made up for the bad firmware in my opinion...

Whats wrong with the luxul waps? I haven't used one yet, but i like the idea of a single access point....
You for got to add "oh my" at the end of your post. On. Off. On. Off, again. On. Staying on. Nope. It's off. On. On. Off. On. Off...ad nauseum... When it's on, I have found the power to be very good. However, I would rather be forced to stay with 20' of an AP that just works than to be allowed to more freely roam on an AP that works when it wants. Yes, I have tried different models, different POE sources, etc. They just don't work reliably.

We only spec Pakedge routers/switches/wap's.
Sure there may be brand X of this and brand Y of that that have this feature or benefit but I prefer to have all networking gear under the same umbrella for several reasons, primarily for consistency of setup/programming and troubleshooting. Plus I like the company, how they do business and their support is US based. To me that is important. I've had several conversations with Victor and I always get someone on the phone quick.
Think about it this way; if you have a Cisco router, a Netgear switch and Ruckus WAPs, the minute you have problems you're going to call the manufacturer of the device that you believe is causing the issue...whether it is in reality or not. Well, let the finger pointing begin and the endless loop of calling different companies, waiting on hold or waiting for a call back...
By using one company (in our case Pakedge), if there is a problem with the network it's 100% their system and their problem to solve. No finger pointing or blame placing. I love being in the position where I can say "well it's all your gear, fix it and make it right".

Just a note: make sure you engineer the PoE segment of the system properly. If you have many devices that will be powered by PoE make sure the switch can handle them power wise since some switches will only provide "half" PoE power (about 7.7W) on all ports and not the full power (15.4W) specified by the standard.

I think it's pretty safe to say Ruckus is #1 for WiFi right now. Even if it's just a single 7363 AP without a ZoneDirector. Add a ZoneDirector though, and life just gets way more peachy.

Throw a ubiquiti m2 bullet on a 15db pro series omni antenna from radiolabs.com along with there amp and for $500 you have a setup that'll cover 5 miles. Assuming you mount the antenna 75 ft up lol.
In the attic it covers 4 acres of land and house well.

Router, again, Mikrotik
Switches : Pakedge over netgear all day
Wap ruckus or ubiquiti
Its just so simple for the majority of projects. For large scale, make sure to have vlans and ruckus if possible.

Its quite interesting reading all these different makes and router and not one person has mentioned the word "enterprise" and its nothing to do with Star Trek..:) if you want reliable network gear just use anything that meats the enterprise standard.. just google it you will find out why this is the "key" word when it comes to network gear..
