I have a client/friend that wants to upgrade is cameras in his store. He already has a DVR, here is the link : [Link: google.com]He wants to keep his DVR and change all cameras. My problem is, all new cameras seem to be IP and his DVR only accepts Coax type cameras. Does any one of you guys have a good brand that I should look into to do the job? I'm doing a site visit this week so, the info I gave you guys is all I have for now. Thanks!

Being a commerical store, I assume there are at least a few lights on during the night. If so, check out the Pelco IS21 series dome camera. The camera comes with a in-ceiling housing if you wish to use it. @di has them on sale until we run out of stock but there are plenty. This is a $500 retail camera for well under regular disty cost. You won't be disappointed. [Link: pelco.com]

Does any one of you guys have a good brand that I should look into to do the job? I'm not sure what you mean by this? I do CCTV often enough and I have yet to see IP camera that's superior to analog ones -- when it comes to low/no light situation. Where have you looked that you can't find analog cameras? If you reversed the statement and said that your local disty only carries analog and you're looking for IP, I'd understand; but not the other way around. Talk to your AD*, SG*, Snap, etc. people. Several hundred solution for what you want to do. The only thing you need to look at (and I have not read the specs or the manual) is that the DVR can support decent resolution/quality/FPS. Otherwise it's like watching BluRay on 7" b&w tv.

Probably 1000 solutions to this questions.
Snaps 700 series cams are great with a few existing issues though. Less available options than most but what they do, they do well (with the exception of the few existing issues that I hope they are addressing).
Digital Watchdog 1363 and 1367 cams are great also. Most of the DWC line is nice.
Not to be overlooked ICRealtime. They have just about every solution one could ask for in the security camera realm from the $75 no frills to border patrol grade stuff.

I'm meant that most cameras use Cat5 and RJ45 now and the DVR only accepts a BNC connection. I did not write this well at first. Sorry for that. Thank for the help!

Look at the Digital Watchdog cameras- some of the new ones can use Cat5e and baluns (at the DVR) but they can also use coax. I like them a lot and they have worked exactly the way I want. I have used the V3363D, V3363DIR, V4363D and DWC-MC352DIR, as well as their VDRs (two models). Great price, they work great and 5 year warranty.

Thank for the help! Analog cameras, the ones that are have been the standard for the longest time are the ones that use BNC. Some cheap Costco crap use RJ11 or RJ45 proprietary plugs. There are some hybrid DVRs that can accept analog (BNC) and IP cameras (RJ45) but they're not that common yet. If you have BNC connections and RG59 cable, than you're all set. If you only have Cat5 to the camera, you can still use most of analog camera with a balun, but power requirements come into play because of smaller copper gauge of Cat5 pairs compared to 18/2 commonly found on the Siamese CCTV cable. Again, I can't see any issues with swapping the cameras and reusing existing DVR, provided it's a quality product.

NVR's? Most NVRs are just for IP cams and do not support analog, without IP-to-analog converters, right? Aren't NVRs just glorified NAS? I know there is more to it than just store a file, I'm just saying...
