Therefore the 2nd amendment more than ever is one of the most important parts of the constitution. In my opinion no part of the Constitution should be changed, omited or ignored.

I hope I'm not the only one who sees the irony in this statement. :)

There's never going to be a revolution.  I promise.  People are too lazy to vote, do you think they'll actually revolt?  Maybe 4 dudes in Texas, but that's it.

Lazy maybe, but really people are too fat to revolt, even the kids are too fat to revolt, I'm serious!

Here's a few opinions that I have.

1.  Assault Rifles are for killing human beings.  Period end of story.

In the course of my 35 years of hunting, I've heard countless people tell me that you can use the .223 assault rifle like the AR15 for hunting, and that's a good enough reason to own it.  I've seen alot of hunters in those 35 years, I've never met or seen one walking through the woods with an AR15.

That being said, if some strange bird (not insane) wants to own an AR15, I don't have a problem with it.  I just figure he's a horrible shot.  If I ever have the need to fire a round per second, I'm probably in the wrong place, or I'm severly out gunned.  In either case, it's not going to end well.

Your opinions are a bit off - IMHO. I always wanted an AR15 when I was in college. I enjoyed coyote hunting. The problem was, and still is today, that an out of the box AR15, like the S&W used in Aurora are just plain old hunks of crap.

My typical shot was 300 yards. A distance well beyond what an out of the box AR could shoot accurately. I chose to shoot my 7mm mag instead because, as you said, 1 shot should get it done. Sometimes a follow up or two was needed if shooting 250-300 on the run. This is why you never saw RESPONSIBLE hunters use them in the field. Poor accuracy has no place in the field.

If you fast forward today, there are many great choices for this type of hunting and are used all the time to hunt pigs, coyotes, prarie dogs, etc. Check these out.

Way more $$$ than the POS S&W. If you go hunting today, you will see these i nthe field. Hunters and shooters are no more OCD than 2 channel stereo guys. Do you need a $10,000 amp? A $30,000 projector? A $100,000 automation system?

They need those items no more than someone would need a $10,000 custom out fitted AR15, .40 race gun or $250,000 Beretta shotgun.

2.  Handguns are made for killing, ain't no good for nothin else. (Thank you Lynard Skynard).
3.  People who "collect" assault rifles are generally strange birds.
4.  People who go to the gun range to shoot assault rifles are also generally strange birds.
5.  I try to steer clear of strange birds.

Now, make it impossible for a crazy son of a bitch to get a gun, he'll just use a bomb.  You can't stop crazy.

Or fly airliners into buildings...

You're obviously out west somewhere doing open plain hunting.  We don't need sniper rifles for hunting in Michigan.  7mm would cause too much damage to my dinner.

Yes I do see the irony. Notwithstanding, The second "amendment" as part of the bill of rights was added in 1791 by pretty much the same group of men who put the constitution together in the first place  [Link: en.wikipedia.org] .

If you want to increase your power in the eyes of others by discrediting me or anyone else go right ahead if that is what you feel is the right thing to do. If you feel the constitution is an old rag that no longer has any purpose then say so, that is of course your first amendment right is it not?

In 1791 they (the old bastards who wrote the constitution) felt the old rag needed updating. What's wrong with updating the old rag in 2012 to make it a new/ relavent rag?

I'm not trying to discredit you, I just think that our forefathers not only had enough insight to create a framework for our future society, but enough to realize that there is no possible way that they could foresee every repercussion or how it would evolve and gave the ability to amend the Constitution to change it for those circumstances.

Other than the Alcohol Prohibition amendment (which we now know was rescinded) no amendment has taken away freedoms. All have been about protecting the freedoms in one fashion or another.

Hopefully any modification going forward will stay true to that ideology. If it can stay on that course, there is hope.

If the Bill of Rights or amendments to the constitution start adopting clauses that restrict and take away personal liberties, then it is a slippery slope, even if it is a liberty that you may personally feel should be restricted. I think we all need to temper our own views with that thought in mind?
