Installed a Sonos system with a LaCie NAS. When finished and setting up clients ipad noticed there were 2 networks available with almost identical network names, actually they were identical but the 2nd one had 2 or 3 numbers after the name. I did not remember if it was like that before I started. Client called the next day to say they cannot access the internet from any devices. They called ISP (cablevision) who told them "Somehow the network was set to another one"....Not sure what that means? They were back to normal until client emailed me today to say they were not connected again. I will be going back at the end of the week and would like to know what I did to cause this and how to fix it. Also having a sonos/itunes/nas issue as stated in another thread, and would like to get it done in one shot. Any guidance on this? Thx

Latest info: The problem is only with the mac laptop getting booted, not with anything else..... The mac was the one used for initial setup if that matters

How many WAPs do you have on the system? They should all have the same SSID and password. Also, security should be AES as recommended by Apple

Replace whatever crap they have with something reliable that you are familiar with. They likely have some rubbish equipment such as Zyxel if it was provided by their ISP. If you're setting up security with Apple products, start with WPA-2 Personal (aka AES as the gman mentioned). But first I'd rip that garbage out pronto! The minute you start refusing to work with client or ISP provided network equipment the better and more reliable your systems will be. I may come off as a hard ass about this (don't really care) but I refuse to work with anything other than what we provide when it comes to network equipment, that goes for the modem too.

I understand all of that, but the whole system consists of 3x play5's, a connect amp and a dock, all within 100' and the furthest they will ever go with ipad is 150' tops, so I didn't think necessary. Maybe i'm wrong on that who knows... Just seems odd the only device with an issue is the mac, and there wasnt an issue before. I will try the wpa-personal setup.. Thanks

Is the D-link Dual frequency? It could account for the two different SSID's. I don't know if all dual frequency routers do this, but I do know I have seen some that do require separate SSID's to be entered during setup. Whether you can enter the same name or not, I am not sure.

I guess I could look it up but do you know default username and password for the d-link?

JFYI WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK are selections that are not necessarily tied to the encryption setting of TKIP or AES.
Verify what options your WAP supports and select the settings required by the client being sure that you have the desired selection in both categories.
