Have not done satellite in several years ...

Can you use diplexers with Directv swm?? If so will it it limit the ability to use the watch anywhere from one DVR?

It is officially unsupported from DTV, but a diplexer is in fact built in to the SWiM multiswitches and it works fine. You'll have to use a wide-band diplexer on the other end such as the NAS STD-9501. The older diplexers from CATV distro days won't work.

BUT - if you diplex anything on the SWiM multiswitch, you kill DECA and the whole-house DVR functionality as you are using that bandwidth space for whatever you are diplexing, so yes - you are limited.

thats what cat5 is for :) assuming this is a new construction satellite install?

Its an old house with more or less of a requirement for no new wires. Older dish network system diplexes ota and we want to keep the antenna for locals because customer thinks ( and I tend to agree) the picture is better than locals off sat.

Not to mention no DVR and no continuity in interfaces and flow. And extra macros and buttons. For what? One less artifact every 10 seconds?

If I'm not mistaken only the OLD HR20s do. Everything.HR21 and up has the external atsc tuner that connects via USB to DVR.

I do believe the add on tuner is gone as well... Last time I tried to get one.. Quite some time ago... no one at directv could find one for me.

Correct, but it still incorporates it the channels into the guide and provides the ability to record the OTA channels.
