Can anybody offer up some insight on how you integrate a cash register with a surveillance system?
I have been working with IC realtime and they aren't getting there. The cash registers are going to be windows computers. The company will provide whatever receipt printer we tell them will work. IC cant tell me what printer or protocol to use or look for.
The idea is that the text information of the transaction scrolls on the camera recording of the register. Then you can search for transaction amounts and go to that place in the recording.

Google " text inserter for pos " . I had a few inquiries in the past , but never had a chance to install one . You will need that above mentioned text inserter as well as 232 adapter/ interface. - depending on dvr and pos type .

I have had the best success with the honeywell rapideye dvrs and the smart pit. It will do everything you want and another plus is it doesn't overlay the register data but instead give you a reciept view window. You can do multiple registers if needed. Will work with USB, Ethernet or serial systems. You can search data from the journals such as "no sales", void tickets or error corrections and can do it for an employees shift.

Did it once and it is running great BUT it is a nightmare. And getting the serial pinout from the printer manufacturers is like pulling your own teeth.....run very fast

The smart pit that honeywell makes works with most pos systems. If the one your using isn't on the list, it has a sniffer mode that you can put it in and it will learn the register. The sniffer mode works best with serial, but it will work USB and Ethernet also if needed.

I don't do a lot of this myself, but have a colleaugue that does all the local installs for a large (few thousand location) QSR chain. They have standardized on March Networks specifically for POS integration and love it. http://www.marchnetworks.com/
