To respond to the last couple:
Moving the emitter around is not an issue - commands 1 and 4 work; 2 and 3 do not. I tried all that. Even put tape over the IR window with a pinhole.
Mario, it's going back to the distributor. Trying another brand and will report in a week.

Audio Authority 1374A is solid. Although URC codes in the database are no good, I was able to learn the IR codes easily enough and amazingly, this HDMI switcher actually switches like it should! RECOMMENDED!! Plus Anthony at AA is a nice guy and helped get me a couple of these in a hurry.
It also has RS232 but I'm using an MX880 and MRF350, so that's out. That's why I needed good IR. This one has it.
