or do we run the power cable through the wall - yikes

First of all that is against code and illegal....don't do it.

The easiest solution is mount it close enough to the tv so you don't see the power cable.

Massive oversight, I wont be selling as many as i thought i would. Client will have to provide a cabinet or accept that it looks like the TV is setting on top of the bar.

Wow, bummer. We cant even mount a recessed box or outlet behind it the way the mount is setup. What the hell were they thinking!!

how are we supposed to run the power cord
do we have to have a outlet put behind the sound bar now too
or do we run the power cable through the wall - yikes

I was thinking the same thing. The webinar wasn't too clear on that, but the Engadget photos show the playbar sucked up right to the wall. The playbar must have a recess in the back for the playbar bracket to go. Maybe that's where you magic an outlet in and stuff the excess cordage.

Opportunity for powerbridge to come to the rescue and build a customer bracket with AC openings.

Anybody wanting a few answers the manual is online in the support section.
- specifically states play3 for rears
- night mode and dialog enhance are buttons on the now playing screen of the app
- 2 ethernet ports, 1 optic, 1 removeable ac cord
- auto TV mode option - drops the Playbar from any groups it was part of
- IR feedback light defeatable
- standard bass, treble, loudness

What's the big deal? All you gotta do is take out your plasma cutter, cut out a single gang sized whole to insert your old work box, install recessed outlet and you're good to go. Simple. I'm sure thats what they were thinking.

Yeah, but once you do that you take away the area where the optical cable goes so you have to drill through the recessed box. This also assumes that there is enough of a recessed area to completely cover the box without pushing the sound bar out and to shove 7 1/2 feet of the power cable in that area without stressing the connections and taking out the optical cable.

Yeah. It is called custom for a reason right? I think I will get one and the mount and figure something out. Then I will sell my custom brackets and make millions! Or.....since it is my house, I might just run the power cord in the wall! WAIT! WHAT?!

I am thinking there is a way to mount a recessed box behind it...but the mount is only 3.15" tall. That will be the tough part. But I am picturing something like this only without the goofy grommet:

Then you would have to space the bracket off the wall a bit, unless there is enough room between the bracket and the soundbar for that.

Maybe everyone should pitch in and buy me a 6 pack of the mounting brackets to frankenstein with. :)

+1....we are custom installers, we are getting used to how easy installations are getting and forgetting that we get paid to deal with the difficult stuff

we may have to find one that goes back at an angle to fit it easier

I assume you mean the power plug will not quite recess enough to be flush with the speaker? I think a right angle plug would do the trick. The cord only needs to be a foot long or so. It seems difficult to find such a cord though. Might have to custom build those too. :)

5.1 but what current TVs output more than 2ch via their optical?
Sammy - no
Panny - i'ver heard both yes and no - model dependent
Sharp - no

So you put in the play3s and get what out of them when the signal is only stereo?

I just noticed that as well and then if you add a sub for 5.1 what comes out of it
Kind of confused now
