Has anyone seen an in-wall mounting system yet for the Kindle? Just wondering what's out there......

I'm curious about how the Kindle is to be used. I can't imagine someone mounting one in the wall, then standing there and reading a book!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking, but I have to assume he's referring to a wall-mounted base station for charging only?

Ha - I'm sure his reason is not for the client to book read.

Sonos , RTiPanel, Crestron app prob?

Wondering this myself. I don't think anyone makes something like this that matches the iport features and build. Would be great though..

I am sure that he is going to hack it and load some flavor of Android. I have been considering doing the same to use it for RTI.

I use mine as a home automation controller (have 3 now). Currently using PadTab, but would like something better. May make someting myself when I have time. I wrote an article about it here: [Link: hometoys.com]

I just bought my wife a kindle fire a couple weeks ago.  The first thing I thought when I opened it was how perfect the size is for a wall mount pad controller.

Unfortunately, I think we're out of luck on things like iport, because there are so many different manufacturers, it would be nearly impossible to keep up with the different sizes as they change every 6 months.

Idocx showed one at infocom. Also, On controls supports the kindle fire, so that give you full control from a 7" touchscreen for $199 plus head end and license....the fire will eventually destroy any wall mounted touchscrens in my opinion. I don't know the MSRP on the idocx piece.

I can't disagree with that.  You can also use the Fire with Bitwise.

Why would you need to hack it? Am I missing something? The Fire is an Android Device isn't it?

The fire is android, mbut it is a modified version of android. You don't have access to the google marketplace, not google apps, no folders, and you only get the apps from amazon, so it's kind of limited. You can hack it using burritoroot to gain root access, then install TWRP 2.0 to allow you to install Roms. Then you can install MUIU or Cyanogen Mod. I have done both and CM7 is the best so far.

Something your normal user can do easily.

I wouldn't recommend anyone with high blood pressure do this. It's very risky, and I bricked mine twice. Now that I know how to do it, it's pretty easy, but its also pretty easy to ruin it too. I would like to add that On Controls is available on the native Amazon Fire OS. I changed mine because I hated the Amazon version of Android. It also runs faster on CM7 than on the original OS. I would recommend XDA Forums, Buritto Root, Jackpot Claven, and Brad Linder from Lilliputing if you are looking for ways to improve upon your kindle fire.
