Finally got to hooking up my own equipment, and wouldn't you know, after a couple of hours wiring my rack, I went to fire up the Extron switcher....blink blink blink blink............BLACK........

"scratching head (scratch scratch).....

removed all cables for inputs and outputs.... tried again.... nothing :(
Checked the fuse inside.... GOOD....

Power supply board.... tick tick tick tick.... slight ticking....

Any thoughts..... Wow... to think I do this professionally and now Im dealing with a bad piece of my own.............but a necessary piece... :)

HELP.........please......(advice, you have extra parts ,etc...)
Im calling Extron tomorrow to ask also....

Old switch or new one? I've had Extron power supplies tick before and they were bad. Never had any bad out the box. Old and power surges are the only two causes of death that I've ran into.
Who says you can't put 61" plasmas up on cantilever mounts using toggle bolts? <---Thanks Ernie ;)

After a investment of around $1.87 for 2 new capacitors I have fixed the power supply on the Extron....

Thanks to Pete, ***** for the docs and the guys at Tri-State Electric for the parts.

I am back in business on my switcher.... Sure beats a new matrix.....

Hello, I'm new to the forum but have used some of the very useful info here on many of my various projects. I recently got two Extron Crosspoint switchers(from the late 90's early 00's) One of the switchers works, the other does not. Before uninstalling the one unit it was flashing on and off, then after having it disconnected from power for a while it does not come on at all. I swapped the power supply from the good one to the one that does not work and it worked fine. I would like to know if anyone has the service bulletin or know specifically which caps to replace.

Thanks alot!

Brad

I can't tell you how grateful I'd be, if you'd share your service document or repair instruction with me!

Thank you,
Sean

If no one else is able to help, open up the power supply and look for bloated electrolytic capacitors.

Google bad electrolytic cap picture to see what I mean
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Is this document hermetically sealed in a hostile environment, only to be approached by the likes of Torchwood? How about a URL?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

CI,

The power supply for an Extron Crosspoint switch of my church has the same symptom as your, i.e., no power and it goes tick...tick...tick.

I changed all six of the 330uf 50V capacitors because some of them were bulging slightly.  But changing these capacitors did not help.  The same symptom is still occurring.

I don't have any test/lab equipment to troubleshoot it nor do I have the schematic diagram for the power supply.  If you can inform me which capacitor was changed in fixing your problem, that may help me to revive my power supply.  Should you have a photo that you can send me, that would be the best.

Thanks,
HK
