ProControl talks a big game with their ProLink.Z

I've had no chance to play with the software yet, but curious what 3rd party systems it is compatible with? Does it play well with Lutron lighting (or others), HVAC (If so, which ones?), and security?

Seems like a really cheap entry, any pitfalls? Seems like it'd be an easy sell to those folks looking for cheap now, but who might like to upgrade later.

I'm always torn on those jobs. I know I could easily get the job if I spec a MX-900 and a RF-260, but when they want ipad control, or add HVAC integration, we're almost starting over.

Heads up, if you decide to watch the intro to ProControls video on the dealer site. Please have vodka and a handgun nearby. It's about 3-4 times as long as it needs to be. Whoever is leading the presentation may be the worlds nicest guy, but presenting is not his forte.

I was reluctant to move toward the ProControl series, but I checked it out, bought an R and a Z for beta testing (my wife).

I've brought home all kinds of remotes to her over the last 15 years.  She has said on more than one occasion that the ProControl is the best remote I've ever brought home.

That being said, I like it as well.  I've never controlled lighting with it though.  Programming is a snap and efficient, GUI is nice, uses discrete codes automatically.

For small one room systems I've stopped using URC completely.

I played around with the software just now. Looks nice. It's compatible with a $100 wifi thermostat, which is sweet, as well as Aprilaire. Lutron lighting looked easy enough.

Didn't see anything for security? I assume we could add it easy enough? I saw the RTI AD-4 in there also. I didn't see the AD-8in the list. Is that available? Rarely is 4 zones enough for distributed audio. This thing looks like it will be easy to sell.

Whats the best iPod dock for this unit? I saw something about cover art possible. Which iPod dock is best with it to get cover art?

We have a demo in our office, the remote is nice. I have yet to play with the programing yet but I hear it is easier than URC. I just won a MX-780 @ a sales meeting and I am considering buying one of the Pro remotes for myself and giving the 780 to a customer.

I agree, no need for URC at all. Almost as powerful as regular RTI line but at a fraction of the price. I could have used this in so many systems in the past where I used a T2C and RP6.

Feels plasticky like a URC MX450 but the programming flexibility and editable touchscreen makes it worlds better for about the same price. Not to mention it comes with a rechargeable battery.

Greatest thing about this is if it breaks you don't lose your shirt on it.

Use this remote for entry level jobs and slightly beyond - it's a no brainer.

PS. Can someone clue me in on how to use my RTI IR library for programming?

Does anyone else think the price for iPod/Pad/Phone apps is too high? I think we would sell more if they cut it down to a lower price. It's good that they have a better dealer accommodation price for the equipment and apps, but still- they could charge less and sell more.

Here is my question, can you use it with URC dimmers like what is possible with rti?

How is the range / reliability on the RF version. I spoke to Longshot and he is having problems with the RF. Would like to hear from others to find out if it is a problem with Procontrol in general or if it is something in his environment. Stopped using URC years ago due to all of the RF issues but have had good success with RTI.

I just replaced a couple of URC remotes that were having various RF issues in a high rise MDU. It's only been a couple of days but so far so good on the ProControl .r units in what is certainly a "noisy" RF environment.

What's her favorite? I've never done a Pro Control and I've got a client with a system that's just a TV, a cable box, a Blu-ray player, and an AVR. That's just the eensiest bit more than any of the factory remotes can handle. And he says not to let his wife touch the remote, as she's the kiss of death to it. (That's because he had me program his other system's Yamaha remote to do everything, a truly scary and bad idea, as so many buttons must do things that they are not labeled for.)

So, faves for the simple client?
