i have a customer that avidly uses spotify, infact he sold his entire CD collection. He wants to integrate it into his den/outdoor speaker system but i cant find a rock solid solution that isnt half baked.

Customer has denon 3312ci and were using zone two to power the deck speakers.

Control system is RTI. I think sonos is the best out there that integrates with spotify seamless but its not like he will be able to control it with his RTI system. Better solution? thoughts?

Thanks!

Since the 3312 is airplay compatible, has he tried spotify via airplay?

yeah thats how they do it now but he doesnt like it as a permanent solution. Hes already had the ipad walk and couldnt find it only to find out his son took it to his friends house.

And even so he wants to be able to pick up his remote and hit play/foward etc etc. I see boxee offers support for it, i have to admit im not to familiar with devices like those. Apple tv would be good but it doesnt sound like they are getting spotify support for some time.

i really wish sonos offered integration even for the basic functions, would be a perfect solution.

Roku was my next guess but it doesnt sound like they offer spotify yet.

He has a XP6, any drivers for sonos via IP?

Squeezebox does spotify. I have never used the spotify service with it, just pandora and sirius. But they work good and integrate with RTI nicely.

Unfortunately he has the 3312 already.  Onkyo and Integra have Spotify built in streaming.

which model do you use? they did away with the little square box. Now all that is offered is the wireless radio version or the $1299.99 rack streamer. Nothing in between

You can still get a sqeez radio/player and just use the squeezebox app. No 2-way, but Better than AirPlay and the app works very well. Both for iPad and iPhone.

Squeezebox touch and the squeezeserver installed on a client PC would offer two-way on any RTI remote/in-wall. Never used Spotify with it but if Squeezebox has it that would be your solution. There is also a rackmount unit for about $400. I'll try and find the link; I believe Drewski posted it here a few days ago.

He might jump at Autonomic MMS - 2 or 5 streams. Or Nuvo MPS4 - 4 streams.

Maybe offer him good, better, best.

Maybe Onkyo as a source into the Denon?

I believe someone on the RTI forums has this working with a SB solution. Even if you just go with a SB hardware device you still need a PC running the SB Server software. So I think its pointless to stick with that!

Just get a VB solution and call it a day.

Why not just do sonos completely separate then? Zp-120 for the outdoor and a zp-120 on a 12 volt triggered a/b switch for the main room. Niles sas-1 would allow you to have the sonos connected to the mains and sub and have the denon output a 12 signal any time it's on to flip the speakers and sub to it.

I do agree with this but because he already has RTI it wouldn't take much more to move to the Vortex box route. I don't think I've posted anything regarding rack mount PC's but I've been getting close to testing VB's. I ordered two squeezebox touches and realized that I still need to have the server software running on a background computer which I'm not interested in this option for customers. Simply because if the computer shuts off your screwed and if the customer has any hint of non-techiness then you can expect a phone call. For customers, I'm on board with Cams. Order a preconfigured VB with I believe up to 4 streams of audio for $400. Done and done!

You can also use a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo as the server.

I find that most people have an old laptop or are just about to upgrade. These older computers are perfect to lockdown and use for just a the most simple tasks that we need them to.

awesome suggestions guys, Keep em coming.

As far as the vortex box. Is it a media center PC or is it its own standalone system meaning it automatically rips the CDs etc? (no good now that he sold his CD's) Does it run windows?

How would spotify work?

Also, what is control like? IR/IP? would it be two way?
