Could not agree more....I have had "other" control system fans pick up the remote and try to hate it....they could not.....

I have also had new techs argue that it could not be a wifi remote....no wifi remote could have the battery life and responsiveness....yes they can,,,,

I think the sr-250 is decent, but the button layout is annoying to me - the transport buttons aren't laid out intuitively, and when I first set up mine, I kept having to look down and check to make sure I was hitting the FF button etc. - not a big deal, but I think something like the MX880 button layout is better for sure. Larger labels are a must for people who can't see well. I agree it gets to be a bit of a pain with menus like "options", "3D", "tools", etc.

As for the dvd open button, you still have to walk your lazy ass over to the machine to take out the disc, so what does it matter if you need to push the eject button at the machine vs a button on the remote. Its the same number of steps.

That was just a "for instance".  Maybe I should have said "adding any button that isn't in their pre-made or hard button tempelate".

For instance, adjusting bass or treble, turning audyssey on or off, or any of the other control options a system may need or want.  If C4 had a remote with some type of screen where graphics could be edited, it could be a decent remote.

Another thing I hate with remotes (not just the 250) is when they use the transport icons.  Most people who don't work in this industry don't know what ► is.  Label the damn buttons, Play, Pause, FFW, Rew.......  It doesn't take up that much more room.

You have been misled. Especially since via was discontinued

Maybe, I got out of Elan after 5 years right before the whole HomeLogic thing.  G looks cool but the people I know who still use it aren't too impressed.

Some people are never happy. I ind it interesting that they supposedly aren't impressed, but still use it. There are some things I wish Elan would speed up on getting updated, but the ease and reliability is still great. And back to being more on the original topic, for right now, I don't think anyone has a remote that is as nice as the HR2. That includes the remote companies.

My main complaint about the SR250, as mentioned by others, is the button layout and the inability to program additional buttons other than what is provided with the hard buttons on the remote.

I will predict that their next generation handheld remote will be much more flexible in this regard. I hope they do something different with the button layout as well. One of my favorite remotes as far as physical button layout goes is the URC MX880. The 450 is equally as well thought out. I also really like the MX5000 layout that removes the number keypad....I know some people could not live without those, but I never use them. Also, that 5000 might be the nicest feeling remote I have ever held. I have large hands, and it is a large remote....and it looks sexy.

The SR250, while it may be perfect in function, to me, needs either a refresh, or a step-up model above it in the line. I cannot complain about the price of the 250....but I would pay more for a better remote any day. :)

I would say most people are never happy, and that's a good thing.  Can you imagine what our industry would be like if people "settled"?

The people that I know that still use Elan do it because they like the company they work for, not necessarily the control system the owner chooses to sell.  after all, that's who it's ultimately up to.

I, however, chose to move on from Elan and I haven't looked back.  Maybe their systems have come a long way from the days of "precision panels", sub zones, and head end VSE's.  I'll never know!
