We are a Samsung Service Center....We see their crap all day long come in for repair. I can't believe there hasn't been a recall for the Power Supply. Also, they are still using the same defective caps in many of the "New" models. We service Samsung more than any other brand.

We had this issue with one of our restaurants. It was a hassle but they covered repair even after warranty. It was always a cap issue.

my 46" lcd suffered from the same issue.  i was going to fix it myself by swapping out a few bad capacitors. in my search for the proper cap, i found out that samsung was repairing certain sets for free even though they were out of warranty.   i called them, and within a week,  i had a service tech out and they swapped the caps for me.   i was hoping for a whole new board, but oh well, at least they took care of it.

I tell my customers about this issue and most of the time they tell me to install the new set they bought and give me the old one. I make a fair amount of money off rebuilding the sets and selling them :)

What is a safe bet? Panasonic doesn't seem much better with their plague of board failures. Go figure, Samsung and Panasonic are our goto lines. Got another call today on a 65" Panasonic plasma with a bad A board 1 year 3 months out of warranty. Recommendations?

Removal and remount? No. Good point. Its our policy to the client to provided free troubleshooting and labor for products purchased from us and still covered under the manufacture warranty. This is a bit of a gray area because the manufacture warranty was expired but they were still standing behind the product, which really is the point.

We have taken to upselling the A**D extended warranty. You dont even need to buy the panel from them. Its just another sku to sell and make something on. So I basically give the panel away at cost as we all do anyway then make full retail on the warranty.

As for Samsung we sold 4 Samsungs in the last 4 years and 3 of them had this issue. Of the hundreds of LG's only a couple have done this. But we have had the red dot problem on a few other LG's. The few Panny's have all been good.

When a 50" panel has been trimmed down to $800 this is what is expected. Its the higher end panels using some of these same shitty parts that is the concern.

We sell a lot of Samsung and the above issue was the only one. Maybe 3 percent of what we have sold in the last 3 years.

LEDs seem very stable.

Mike

When we were a Pioneer service center in the 1980's, we serviced Pioneer more than any other brand.

They also had the lion's share of the market. Same with Samsung now.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
