Does any one know what protocol C4 uses for the remote access of their system by installers offsite? I assume SSH. Also does anyone know if this hosted by them or if they farm this service out to another company. Just curious.

Thanks.

Control4 just provides a dynamic DNS service for all practical purposes. how you connect at that point is up to you. Kinda like logmein or gotomypc. they keep an open port to your account and when you initialize contact, they just close the connections. http, FTP, SSH up to you. I've been told its all in house.

the best way is to be a dealer and use the clients 4sight account (dealer because you need the software)

This is the service I am referring to. Is the 4sight service in house or is it farmed out?

Thanks

It's OpenVPN handled through Control4's servers. You get a VPN connection directly to the main controller. It doesn't provide a VPN connection to the whole network, just the main controller. But once the OpenVPN is connected you can ssh to the main controller, then ssh from that controller to other C4 devices in the house to do stuff like reboot, restart services, etc.
