On commercial site. DSL worked the other day, not now. Supposed to have four lines...maybe, definitely DSL. No DSL today.
A. Can you have DSL with battery but no dial tone? I have one dial tone, two lines are battery onlybut no dial tone, one pair dead.
B. Does polarity matter on DSL connections?

Thanks. Owner's not here, phone closet is locked, 1/2 hr waiting for ATT tech services, and nothing.

Thanks!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Yes, you can definitely have DSL and no dial tone.

Had that happen to me the other day. Drove me crazy trying to figure it out. I ended up disconnecting it at demarc and toning the wires till I found the issue.

Polarity doesn't matter on naked DSL.

Thank you all for that. I love this place. I now have a whole new bit of kapok to stuff into a corner of my brain.

That's a sadly underutilized material.
