Does anyone have a suggestion for a NAS that will play nice with a Control 4 system and Apple downloaded music.

We generally use Western Digital MyBooks or Buffalo drives. But I've never had a problem with any brands that I recall.

Ed piece? Not sure what that refers to....

Mp4? Thats a Video format.. Was he trying to play it on a Media player?

if you mean M4a/AAC you need to enable it in the Scan. Its off by default for some reason. Until 2.2, it wasnt even listed as a format you CAN scan for and had to manual enter the file extension.

This is a job that we "care for" but didn't install.  I'm not a C4 dealer, but my techs are C4 certified (ironic isn't it).  I just don't know anything about how it works.

Here's are basic problem.  Customer is a huge music and movie downloader (from itunes).  He had a Apple TV (v1).  It died.

He didn't want the AppleTV (v2) because it doesn't have a HD.

Also everything in the C4 system is component, which makes the ATV2 a pain.

On top of that, when I took over "the care" for the system, I let the client know that he can't have a warranty on anything that we haven't provided.   And he was fine with that.  Unfortunately, I can't get signed up with C4, but the hack that installed this thing can. This system is a nightmare. So we're going in this week to take the entire system apart and put it back together correctly.

I'm looking for the easiest way to give him access to his media, and make it work.

When I posted this, I had no idea there was a HDMI to Component converter.  (I thought you couldn't go backward?).   I'm going to order one, try it out and see how it works.

So at this point, we're going with ATV2 into the C4 and using Airplay/ iCloud.

I just want this thing as easy and smooth as possible.

You can always just share the Music drive on his PC or put the NAS drive in like you originally planned and mirror his itunes library to it.

Unless he does have DRM music, then the ATV2 solution may help. Ive tried a couple times to use those HDFury things and never got them to work well enough to leave them in someones home.

Well for pete's sake...are you saying that a manufacturer makes something that doesn't work as advertised?  So thanks to you, I'm back to square one. :)

So what you're recommending is mirroring iTunes.

I've seen plenty of people that seem to have had better luck than I..... Probably worth a try at least...

But yeah, have a backup plan....

PC or Mac?

You don't want to get within 100 yards of this place.  You should actually send me money for saving you the aggravation on the chance that he could've contacted you unless I was there to save the day.

Just drop the money by the office.  :)

Impaqt, everything in the house is Mac.
